(Minghui.org) I recently received a phone call from someone who worked at the 610 Office–an extralegal organization ordained by Jiang Zemin for the express purpose of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners.

This gentleman told me that he had received an order to monitor me because I had submitted a legal complaint against Jiang, but he did not want to do it because it was against his conscience.

Because the 19th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party was going to convene soon, he told me that I was being closely monitored, including my whereabouts. His boss had told him to meet with me to gather some information.

He said that he did not want to get me in trouble, but there were things that he could not discuss on the phone. He promised that I would find out what kind of person he was once we met.

Not knowing his intentions, I said to him, “Yes, I wrote the legal complaint against Jiang. What are you up to? Videotaping me or recording our conversations? What are you plotting now?”

He replied, “I swear that if I do something bad to you, I will be punished by heaven and …”

I stopped him right there and told him that I would go.

After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began to persecute Falun Gong in 1999, the local police station, neighborhood association and 610 Office often came to my work unit and apartment to look for me. Every time they did, my coworkers, friends and family stopped them from finding me. They all protected me.

However, this time, after this officer swore that he would not harm me by any means, I wanted to meet him. He was waiting for me in the neighborhood association's office and was very happy to see me. He did not expect that I would be there so fast.

“Since you swore that you would not hurt me, I came right away. Now, tell me, why did you want to see me?” I asked.

He said that he knew he should not have made that vow, but the reason he dared to do so was because he did not want to participate in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners anymore. However, he had to carry out orders from his superiors.

He told me that he had witnessed how people’s illnesses were cured after practicing Falun Gong, and he knew why more and more people took up the practice.

He said, “Jiang Zemin abused his power, spending more than a year's military budget on the persecution of Falun Gong. Even though the persecution has dragged on for 18 years, Falun Gong practitioners are still firm in their faith.”

“The recent movement to knock on everyone’s doors to hunt for Falun Gong practitioners was initiated in Hebei Province, and we were ordered to follow suit. When we go around in the neighborhoods, people avoid us and only look at us out of the corners of their eyes. We had to tell people that we were there to create social security accounts for them to avoid judgment.”

“The CCP’s leaders have changed over the years, but the persecution hasn’t stopped. Persecuting good people is against my conscience, and I feel like I’m holding a bomb that can explode at any time. I will be destroyed if I keep going.”

“The district 610 Office recently sent us another order to make us track the whereabouts of Falun Gong practitioners who are under surveillance. The order also said that they would designate certain people to watch and follow those practitioners. I’m tired of following their orders and don’t want to report to them. The 610 Office called me today to criticize me for it.”

“If I had a choice, I would quit my job. I’ve heard and witnessed many people (he mentioned a list of names) who had received karmic retribution because they participated in the persecution. I don’t want to persecute practitioners because I believe that everything has a reason, and that good deeds are rewarded and evil is punished.”

He continued, “Being in my position, if I participate, I'll feel guilty and will be punished by heaven some day, but if I refuse to participate, I’ll lose my job. Staying on my job means suffering. I couldn’t tell you this on the phone earlier because all the phones are tapped. I can only tell you this in person.”

I was touched by his story, and strangely, I felt as if we had been friends for a long time even though we had just met. Jiang commits heinous crimes but drags innocent people down with him. Suing Jiang gives these innocents an opportunity to think twice about who they’re following.

I told him, “Now that you understand what Falun Gong really is and are unwilling to participate in the persecution, you can use what your job permits you to help protect practitioners. Protecting kind people is the same as protecting humanity's future.”

He promised that he would.

“Whatever they would do to me, I don’t care. I need to be truthful to my conscience because I’m a Communist Party member,” he said.

I asked him, “Do you really know the CCP? It promotes an atheistic doctrine but demands others to sacrifice their lives for them like a cult.”

I then listed the tragic ends of the Party’s leaders in history. I told him that the CCP wanted to control the heavens, earth and humanity. As a result, the sky is hazy, the earth is polluted, and Chinese people’s minds have been poisoned.

“The CCP fights with people and has killed more than 80 million Chinese. The CCP fights with heaven, so heaven will eliminate it. It has to pay for the lives that it killed. But who will pay for those lives? Naturally, it's the people who are part of the Party. To protect your life and your future, don’t sacrifice yourself for the CCP. I do not want to see you suffering in the future. Quitting the CCP will be good for you.”

He said that I was right.

He offered to drive me home, but I wished him well and left. I felt better knowing that he had made the right choice for his own life, but at the same time I wept for all the people who cannot do the same.
