School Teacher Tried for Publicizing Lawsuits against Former Chinese Dictator
(Minghui.org) A physics teacher in Feixi County was tried for raising awareness of the lawsuits against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin, who initiated the persecution of Falun Gong 18 years ago.
Mr. Hu Enkui, 51, has been arrested numerous times over the years for refusing to renounce Falun Gong. He suffered brutal torture during his repeated incarcerations. Once, prison guards submerged his feet in a basin filled with boiling water for extended periods of time. He had third-degree burns as a result, and to this day, his feet remain deformed.
Since May 2015, more than 200,000 Falun Gong practitioners have filed criminal complaints against Jiang for the suffering they have experienced as a result of the persecution. Mr. Hu worked hard to inform the public of the ongoing lawsuits, only to be arrested again on May 19, 2016, after being reported for posting a flyer reading “Jiang Zemin is being sued all over the world.”
Mr. Hu’s lawyers, Mr. Cheng Hai and Mr. Peng Jian, entered a not guilty plea for him. During the trial on June 1, 2017, they argued that no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong and that Jiang’s persecution of the spiritual practice has been illegal from the onset. As such, they stated, their client had every right to seek justice against Jiang and to stop the persecution.
The prosecution witness failed to show up in court. The lawyers noted the contradictory statements made by the witness and recorded in the indictment, but the prosecutor offered no explanation.
Only several of Mr. Hu’s family members were allowed inside the courtroom. The rest of the seats were filled with police officers.
In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.
The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners over the past 17 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.
Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.
Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
