(Minghui.org) Ms. Wang Chunying was illegally tried by the Yuzhou City Court on February 21, 2017. Her attorney from Beijing pleaded not guilty on her behalf.

Ms. Wang filed a criminal complaint with the Supreme Procuratorate in June 2015 against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin for ordering the persecution of Falun Gong. She was then taken to the Yuzhou Police Department at the end of July and was forced to have samples of her blood and her fingerprints taken. She was arrested once again on August 16, 2016. The local Procuratorate later approved her arrest.

The prosecutor charged Ms. Wang with “using a cult organization to undermine law enforcement,” a common charge used by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to imprison Falun Gong practitioners. The evidence he provided was the complaint letter that Ms. Wang mailed to the Supreme Procuratorate. The prosecutor provided the name of the mailman as the eyewitness.

Ms. Wang defended herself. She said that her filing the complaint was in accord with the new policy announced in 2015 that “all complaints must be placed on file for investigation.” She also correctly pointed out that no law in China defines Falun Gong as a cult, or illegal.

The prosecutor said that Ms. Wang's letter to the Supreme Procuratorate was promoting Falun Gong and was a vicious attack on China’s leadership. He said that Jiang still represents the state; therefore, he said, Ms. Wang attacked and damaged the image of the state.

Ms. Wang's attorney refuted the charges. He pointed out that Ms. Wang mailed her letter to the Supreme Procuratorate, she did not promote it publicly, and that because Jiang is a former head of state, he no longer represents the state.

The attorney also pointed out that according to the law, the rights of the accuser should be protected regardless. He said that it is against the law to investigate and attack the accuser.

The prosecutor suggested a heavy sentence for Ms. Wang because she refused to plead guilty and for promoting Falun Gong in the court.

The trial ended without reaching a verdict.
