(Minghui.org) Mr. Liu Yong, a Falun Gong practitioner from Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province was released on June 3, 2016, after being illegally detained for one year and being imprisoned for five years for talking to people about Falun Gong.

Once vigorous and healthy, he now has many illnesses, including leg edema, chronic high fever, and rheumatism in his feet as a result of torture.

This practitioner faces a very difficult life. He does not have any financial resources and cannot find a job because his identification card (ID) was confiscated by the authorities. He cannot afford to pay for the care of his 93-year-old paralyzed grandmother or pay his son's middle school tuition.

Imprisoned in 2010 and Tortured

Mr. Liu was arrested in June 2010 by officers from the Nanchang City Domestic Security Division, Qingshanhu District Domestic Security Division, Taoyuan Police Station and local resident community personnel. They ransacked his home and confiscated computer and related equipment, as well as a bank card valued at 5,000 yuan, without providing any receipts.

He was taken to the Beidou Hotel in the Xinjian District in Nanchang City and tortured during the interrogation in June. The torture caused hearing loss. He was interrogated and tortured again in July for five days and nights.

The Qingshanhu District Court of Nanchang City tried him in September 2010 and April 2011, and sentenced him to seven years' imprisonment. His appeal to the intermediate court was denied. He was taken to the Ganjiang Prison on June 22, 2011, without informing his family, and then transferred to the Nanchang Prison 15 days later.

Arrested for Peaceful Appeal in Beijing in 1999

Mr. Liu went to Beijing to peacefully appeal for justice for Falun Gong in the end of December 1999 and was arrested by police officers from the Gaobeidian Police Station in the Chaoyang District in Beijing. He was detained for a night at the police station. Then he was taken to the Jiangxi Province Liaison Office in Beijing. After some time he was transferred to the Second Detention Center in Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province where he was held for a month.

During the 2001 Chinese New Year, he was told by his supervisors to come to his workplace for a discussion. On arrival, he was arrested and taken to the Changbei Police School brainwashing center in Nanchang City where he was detained for over three months.

In the brainwashing center, he was held in a confinement cell filled with banners that slandered Falun Gong, and monitored by two CCP staffers around the clock. He was tortured for pulling down the banners. He was forced to watch videos that slandered Falun Gong daily.

Brief Summary of Life Before Persecution

Mr. Liu was a salesperson at a women's and children's shoe shop in Nanchang City. After he started to practice Falun Gong in May 1997, he immediately noticed positive changes in his health and outlook on life. He had been a smoker for many years, but he quit easily after taking up the practice and his bronchitis, gastritis, and arthritis disappeared. He also became a good person and resolved years of grievances with his ex-wife.
