(Minghui.org) Mr. Liu Daoquan, a Chongqing business owner, was taken away while still being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Southwest Hospital by guards from the Yongchuan Prison on July 9, 2016. The prison authorities had granted Mr. Liu medical parole on June 23, when he was near death from a brain and lung infection. His family then took him to the hospital, where he was placed in the ICU for medical treatment.
Mr. Liu had been sentenced to eight years in prison on October 16, 2014 for distributing information exposing the persecution of Falun Gong.
He fainted on June 3, 2016 and was taken to the ICU in the Yongchuan Affiliated Hospital at Chongqing Medical University for emergency treatment.
Mr. Liu fell into a deep coma on June 23. The prison official notified his family and asked them to contact the hospital directly. The doctor told Mr. Liu's wife not to take him home, since his condition was beyond medical treatment. However, the prison authorities did not want to assume responsibility if he died; so they asked the family to get him paroled for medical treatment. The written document states: “Subject to metabolic brain and pulmonary infection, and at risk of death in the near future.”
The family arranged for treatment at Southwest Hospital and transferred him to the emergency aid center on June 24. He was transferred to the hospital's ICU the next day. The surgeon cut open his esophagus and attached a respirator on July 3 to improve his breathing. The medical bills for the few days totaled 180,000 yuan (~27,000 USD).
The 610 Office had someone monitor Mr. Liu and his family during this time.

Staff from the Shapingba District Court then called Mr. Liu's family and asked them to meet with them at noon on July 9.
Mr. Liu's wife and father went. Shapingba court staff read to them from a document: That Mr. Liu's health had improved, and he was no longer eligible for parole. They said that his family could not be his guardian because they all practice Falun Gong. He was to be returned to the prison.
The family refused to sign the document. But when they got to the hospital, Mr. Liu had already been removed from the hospital by guards from the Yongchuan Prison.
Mr. Liu's family went to Yongchuan Prison on July 11 and were told that Mr. Liu is being placed in the Gastroenterology Department of Yongchuan District Hospital. The prison authorities forbade the family from visiting him.
