I’d like to share my understanding of the subordinate soul [Editor’s note: which is also translated as assistant consciousness, assistant spirit, assistant soul, and subconsciousness in various Fa lectures] in this 7-part series.
I have personally experienced various forms of interference that my subordinate soul imposed on my master soul [Editor’s note: which is also translated as main consciousness, main soul, and main spirit]. I have also witnessed some local practitioners being persecuted by their subordinate souls.
I write down what happened to me and a few of my local practitioners to serve as a reminder to everyone to be aware of hidden interference from subordinate souls.
Of course, I can only see the things shown to me at my level, and they are by no means the whole truth.
Practitioners should be guided only by the Fa—the truth of the vast universe—and not by the understanding or experience of another cultivator.
Under Contract With the Old Forces
“You have been with me for years,” I silently told my subordinate souls. “You all know what I'm doing, but I don't know what you're doing. I'll give those who interfered with me three days to rectify yourselves. If you don't, I will eliminate you.”
The following morning, I noticed that one of my subordinate souls had rectified herself. She threw away a little bottle of drugs that she had hidden up her sleeve.
I learned that when she came down from a high level, she had been forced to sign a pact with the old forces as a condition for her to obtain the Fa. She had been spreading the drugs into my dimension since I started practicing Falun Dafa.
The drugs were to make me sleepy. She also spread the drugs around my husband. It looked like a thin layer of mist–a mist that deceived my eyes. I understand now why I was so attracted to my husband for so many years.
Master said:
“There isn’t the problem of lust between husband and wife, but there is an issue of desire, so take it lightly, don’t go to extremes, and you’ll be fine.” (Zhuan Falun)
I thought that I no longer felt desire for my husband, so I could not understand why I still found him so attractive. I sent strong righteous thoughts to eliminate my attachments to lust and desire, but never realized that the old forces had done something to me. The drugs comprised the elements of lust, desire, sleepiness and so on. They contaminated my human eyes in an attempt to destroy my righteous faith.
Through my celestial eye, I observed that the old forces had set up a mechanism specifically for this affair. It was a very complicated-looking machine and was looked after by a specific high-level being. It can produce the drugs automatically. Different conveyor belts delivered different types of drug. Some made me want to indulge in lust and emotion, and some made me sleepy.
Some high-level beings were responsible for passing the drugs to my subordinate soul. Some were monitoring her actions, and another high level being recorded her actions, such as the date the drugs were sent into my dimension, and whether she complied with her pact. This was done to block my understanding of the Fa and to prevent me from being diligent.
The subordinate soul had observed practitioner A's subordinate soul being inserted into the Sinking Lock to suffer, and this frightened her. Thus, she decided to rectify herself. In fact, she had been carrying out the old forces' orders against her conscience, and had long wondered how to stop doing bad deeds.
Asking Master for Forgiveness
This subordinate soul remembered that when a practitioner's master soul encounters problems, they always ask for Master's help. So she decided to go and see Master.
Master was surrounded by gods and radiated light. She hesitated outside for a while. Master knew she was outside and asked the divine beings to make way for her.
She knelt before Master, tears covering her face.
“Great Creator, please forgive me,” she said. “I've been listening to the lectures you gave over the years. I thought I even understood more than the master soul, but I have still done things according to the old principles. Selfishness made me want to protect myself, but I knew that I was wrong according to the upright Fa principles. I was in a dilemma because of what I agreed to do for the old gods.”
She continued, “I'm determined not to do bad things any more. Divine beings, please bear witness to my words. If I violate them, let my body and soul be destroyed. I humbly ask for the Creator's protection. I really don't want to lose this rare opportunity of the ages. I truly want to catch up with the progress of Fa-rectification and become a life in the new universe. I hope the Creator can help me accomplish my goal.”
All the divine beings were moved by her sincerity and regret, and they wanted to help and protect her.
Master smiled, with his eyesight penetrating the entire cosmos. Master showed her the Fa principle of “leaving one side of the net open” (“20th Anniversary Fa Teaching” from Teaching the Fa at the Conference XI) and “outwit them at their own game” (“Fa Teaching at the 2016 New York Fa Conference”).
She understood what Master meant and smiled. All the divine beings witnessed the sacredness, solemness, and boundless power of Dafa.
Master told her that she will have a bright future and told her not to forget her vows and to be a true law-guardian god in the Fa-rectification period. She nodded, with tears covering her face. She kowtowed to Master and left. Divine beings from different levels saw that the Creator had given her a greater mission and were filled with admiration.
Master said:
“In history the old forces arranged many, many things, and they made extremely thorough and intricate arrangements. And to make sure that nothing would go wrong with what they arranged they did a practice run with the previous earth. Think about it--how could they not be attached to it? Could they possibly let go of what they wanted to do? But even so, if our righteous thoughts are very strong, then we're in line with a law in the cosmos, and this law holds in both the old cosmos and the new one: a being's choice is up to him, even if he made some kind of vow in history. At critical moments it's still up to him what he wants to do. And this goes for things that are positive and negative--it's the case for both.” (“Teaching the Fa at the 2002 Fa Conference in Philadelphia” from Teaching the Fa at the Conference II)
I enlightened that it was my choice to rectify my subordinate souls, but it was her decision not to do bad things anymore. We each made our own choices. Despite her pact with the old forces, she chose to follow Master.
Even though this subordinate soul had been rectified, I was still worried that she would relapse. I placed a dome around her. If the old forces want to settle the score with her, the dome could protect her. If she relapsed, the dome would automatically regulate her. If she did not completely rectify herself, it would destroy her.
This was because when I sent forth righteous thoughts in the past, some beings knew they could not beat me, so they begged for mercy and promised not to do bad things anymore. I forgave them and told them not to do evil. But when they turned their backs, I saw that they were secretly laughing at me for having believed them. I did not go easy this time and destroyed them. Because I had nearly been deceived multiple times, I thought of a solution: for those who want to rectify themselves, I would place a dome around them; those who develop evil thoughts would be automatically destroyed by the dome.
Persecutors Meet with Oblivion
One morning a month later, I had a thought: cultivators have to be tolerant; now is the Fa-rectification period, so the subordinate soul should achieve the effect she is supposed to. So that her trip down from high levels would be worthwhile, I decided to remove this dome. At noon, I saw that the dome had many layers that were continuously opening. Before studying the Fa in the afternoon, I saw many old gods surrounding the dome, holding their pact and shouting at the subordinate soul. As the dome was transparent, I could see her looking from inside out.
I told practitioner B what I saw. She immediately replied that we had to send righteous thoughts.
I held the thought that this subordinate soul had rectified herself, so the old forces could no longer control her; whoever interfered with her or tried to get her to follow the old forces’ principles would be eliminated. We both sent righteous thoughts for 20 minutes. But after that, I still saw the old gods surrounding the dome.
Eventually, the dome was completely opened. The old gods rushed toward her and struck her with their gong. It was if she was being electrocuted, and she instantly turned into a fireball. Black burned substances from her body were mixed in with the fire. She curled up in excruciating pain. Charred black skin came off her body, layer by layer (because the subordinate soul also has karma).
Under the thunderbolt-like attack, to everyone's surprise, she slowly stood up. Her body was pure, white, and renewed. The old gods were dumbstruck, wondering why the subordinate soul was not dead. Righteous gods then surrounded the old gods and quickly eliminated them all. As I read Zhuan Falun, I saw the whole process in another dimension, but my heart was very calm.
Master said:
“I’ll tell you, for years I have been continually saying that Dafa disciples’ abilities are tremendous, yet many people don’t believe this since those abilities were not allowed to be seen. Under the effect of righteous thoughts, everything around you, as well as you yourself, will undergo changes. Yet you have never thought to give it a try.” (“20th Anniversary Fa Teaching” from Teaching the Fa at the Conference XI)
“The purpose of doing the Fa-rectification in this human world here is absolutely not to put Dafa disciples or Fa-rectification in delusion.” (“Teaching the Fa at the Western U.S. International Fa Conference” from Teaching the Fa at the Conference VII)
“The fact is, at this time Dafa disciples have to do divine things, because for Dafa disciples their personal cultivation is no longer first and foremost. Saving sentient beings and reconstructing the colossal firmament during the Fa-rectification are the purpose. You have to do Fa-rectification things and things to save sentient beings, so you need to clear away the obstacles presented by this environment and validate Dafa.” (“Teaching the Fa at the Western U.S. International Fa Conference” Teaching the Fa at the Conference VII)
I enlightened that the rectification of subordinate souls is a manifestation of Dafa disciples' compassion and tolerance. It is using supernormal abilities to save lives that would otherwise soon be weeded out by the old forces: if she rectifies herself, she can enter the new universe; otherwise, the old forces would ultimately destroy her, and righteous gods would not spare her. As Fa-rectification period Dafa disciples, it is our responsibility to rectify our subordinate souls; it is an act of great compassion and a manifestation of the fundamental characteristic of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
Fellow practitioners, let’s change our way of thinking, get rid of our human attachments, be genuine Fa-rectification period Dafa disciples. and live up to the expectations of the Creator.
