Ms. Leng Dongmei Sentenced to Three Years after Prior Persecution
(Minghui.org) Ms. Leng Dongmei is a Falun Gong practitioner who works in Dandong City. She was recently sentenced to prison for three years in the Zhenxing District Court after being detained for nearly six months.
Neither her family nor her lawyer knew about the sentencing until the lawyer visited her in the detention center on May 19, 2016. Her hearing was held on May 7, and the sentence was handed down on May 14. Ms. Leng had been lied to and told that her family had been informed of the hearing.
Ms. Leng was initially arrested around 3 p.m. on December 9, 2015, in Dandong City. Political instructor of the Zhenxing District Domestic Security Division Ding Feng and several police officers searched her home and confiscated Dafa books and a desktop computer. Ms. Leng was detained in the Taoyuan Police Station overnight before being taken to the Jingu Detention Center.
In the detention center, Ms. Leng was forced to do slave labor. If she could not finish the daily quota, she was made to stand for long hours.
Ms. Leng told her lawyer that, when several Falun Gong books were taken from her home, she was told to sign a receipt. That receipt was then used as “evidence of a crime.” Her sentencing statement noted that the “tool” she’d used to commit her “crime” had been seized. Ms. Leng believes that referred to her computer, but she only used it to type and surf the Internet. Ms. Leng has appealed her case to the Dandong Intermediate Court.
From 2000 to 2008, Ms. Leng was sent to a labor camp and prison for a total of 10 years and was brutally tortured for appealing to the government to end the persecution and for talking to people about Falun Gong.
Ms. Leng's family has endured extreme mental duress and economic hardship as a result of the persecution.
