(Minghui.org) Ms. Zeng Chunmei, 55, was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison during a secret court trial in late April 2016. She is scheduled to serve her sentence in the Hunan Women’s Prison in Changsha.

Arrested and Home Ransacked

Ms. Zeng Chunmei lived in a residential housing complex in Hongjiang City. Seven officers from Hongjiang Police Department went to Ms. Zeng’s home on October 20, 2015, including Xiao Wei, Tang Xing, Xiang Qiliang and a female police officer Liang Lin.

Two officers, Tang Xing and Liang Lin, arrived first. They claimed they were from the Civil Affairs Department, and came to see Ms. Zeng’s ailing husband. Ms. Zeng realized the visitors were suspicious after she opened the door. She shut the door and refused to let them inside.

Tang and Liang insisted that they were from the Civil Affairs Department and showed fake IDs to convince Ms. Zeng. Once she opened the door again, the officers rushed inside and searched every room. Other officers then entered. Xiang and Liang held Ms. Zeng while the others went through her home. A police officer videotaped the incident.

The police confiscated Falun Gong books and personal items worth 30,000 yuan. Ms. Zeng was taken to detention.

Ms. Zeng’s arrest devastated her family. Her husband suffers from a debilitating physical condition, and her daughter-in-law was due to have a baby. Ms. Zeng had been giving them necessary assistance.

Past Persecution

Since the Chinese Communist regime started the persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. Zeng has been repeatedly detained. She was sent to Baimalong Labor Camp in November 2000 for one year where she was tortured repeatedly. The labor camp authorities assigned inmates to constantly monitor her. She was forced to work extensive hours. She had restricted use of the bathroom and was deprived of sleep. This was all an attempt to force Ms. Zeng to stop practicing Falun Gong.
