(Minghui.org) Mr. Ren Xiaoqing, 63, has been held at the Taiyuan No. 2 Detention Center since his arrest on March 1. A tumor on his neck became enlarged and turned black. His doctor indicated that it was possibly malignant and needed immediate medical attention. Mr. Ren's attorney requested he be released on medical parole, but no authorities would accept his appeal.

Mr. Ren, 63, is a Falun Gong practitioner in Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. His arrest was approved March 15 on the charge of “undermining law enforcement,” an illegal catch phrase routinely used by the Chinese communist regime to convict Falun Gong practitioners.

Detained Even Though Doctors Advise Against It

Officers from the Wucheng Police Station took Mr. Ren to a hospital on March 1 for a routine medical check up before taking him to the detention center. A tumor was found on his neck, which the doctor said could either be a lymph node tumor or thyroid tumor.

The police insisted on taking Mr. Ren to the detention center, but the admitting doctor also said that the tumor was serious and should be checked out at the provincial hospital.

The police then took Mr. Ren to the Shanxi Province Hospital on March 2. The doctor said, “It may be late-term cancer if there are cancer cells.” The doctor asked the police to make an appointment to perform a biopsy. The officers, however, refused and took Mr. Ren back to the detention center.

The doctor at the detention center said that Mr. Ren should not be detained due to his health condition. The police overruled the recommendation and admitted him on March 2.

When Mr. Ren's attorney visited him at the detention center on May 6, the tumor on his neck was very obvious and turning black. His complexion was pale, and he also felt pain in his chest and stomach.

Attorney's Legal Opinion Rejected Without a Reason

Mr. Ren's attorney delivered an official letter to Xiaodian District Procuratorate on May 9, 2016, which stated that Mr. Ren's physical condition was not suitable for detention.

The letter was initially accepted in the procuratorate's case-control center. But they were told that afternoon that the letter needed to be revised. The attorney, assisted by Mr. Ren's family, kept modifying the letter until the staff approved it.

The attorney later received a call from the case-control center and was informed that they would not handle his case. They said the decision came from a higher authority and refused to provide an explanation. The attorney told them that what they were doing was illegal. The case-control center then advised that he could report it to the Office of Hearings and Appeals.

The attorney then went to the Office of Hearings and Appeals and submitted the complaint letter. A staffer named Wang Jie refused to accept it, and said the attorney could complain to a higher authority.

The attorney and Mr. Ren's family also visited the Xiaodian District Police Department to get an update on Mr. Ren's case. A staff member told them that they had nothing to do with the case, and that they should inquire at the Wucheng Police Station.

When they went to the Wucheng Police Station, they were told the case was being handled by an officer named Hou Bo. Mr. Hou, however, said that he just transferred the case to the district procurator.

Mr. Ren's Arrest

After Mr. Ren Xiaoqing was arrested on March 1, five plainclothes officers took him back to his home and ransacked it without providing a warrant or identification. They confiscated 82 second hand printers and 24,000 yuan in cash. Mr. Ren was then taken to Wucheng Police Station.

Mr. Ren was a street vendor who sold photos and refurbished printers.
