(Minghui.org) A total of 13 Nanchong residents were arrested on September 1 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
Ms. Cao Jurong, a physician at Longmen Hospital, credits Falun Gong for curing her late-stage cancer in 2004. Since then, she has never shied away from telling people about Falun Gong and its persecution. Her simple act landed her in police custody instead.
She soon had a relapse of some old symptoms. Her husband and son were repeatedly turned away as they made requests to the police and the detention center for her release. Zhang Xiao, head of the local domestic security office, said the detention center could decide for themselves whether to release Ms. Cao. The detention center said that even visits with Ms. Cao had to be approved by Zhang, let alone her release.
Ms. Cao’s family and lawyer did not give up. The lawyer was finally allowed to see her at the detention center, which later released her on bail.
Ms. Li Qiongzhen, a retired school teacher, is confirmed to have been released two days after her arrest. Mr. Tian Runmin and Ms. Li Minxiu have also returned home after the brainwashing center where they were held was closed.
Ms. Wang Fengying’s family visited her in detention and noted that her health has been on the decline.
The conditions of the remaining 8 practitioners are unclear. They include Mr. Hu Xuecheng (a physician), Mr. Jiang Qiguo (a retired teacher), Ms. Cao Xiaolan, Ms. Ren Xiuli, Ms. Chen Yixin, Ms. Cao Shulan, Mr. Liu Zhaoliang and his wife, Ms. Du Xiuyun.
