Additional Persecution News from China – November 19, 2016 (28 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 26 cities or counties in 13 provinces. According to this report, 12 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, and at least 27 were illegally arrested.

1. [Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region] Mr. Wu Jiming Detained

Mr. Wu Jiming and Ms. Liu Yaru from the Yuanbaoshan District were arrested by officers from the Shanshang Police Station at noon on November 17, 2016. Ms. Liu was released because she failed the physical exam. Mr. Wu was taken to the Pingzhuang Detention Center, Yuanbaoshan District.

2. [Beijing] Ms. Li Xiaofeng Arrested

Ms. Li Xiaofeng was arrested at the Nandulehe Barbershop, Pinggu District, by more than ten officers from the Pinggu District Domestic Security Division and the Nandulehe Town Police Station on the afternoon of November 18, 2016. When the officers later ransacked her home, her husband resisted. The officers threatened to arrest him.

3. [Tianjin] Ms. Liu Yufen's Case Transferred to the Procuratorate

Ms. Liu Yufen, 63, from Hedong District, was arrested on May 1, 2016 for talking to people about Falun Gong. Her home was ransacked. She is held in the Nankai Detention Center. Her case has been transferred to the Procuratorate.

4. [Jiaohe City, Jilin Province] Ms. Cui Shifang Detained

Ms. Cui Shifang, from Fengshou Village, Qingling Town, was arrested at home by seven or eight officers from the Qingling Town Police Station on November 14, 2016 for handing out calendars. The officers ransacked her home and confiscated Falun Gong books, calendars, and other materials. She was taken to the Jilin City Detention Center.

5. [Liaoyuan City, Jilin Province] Mr. Li Xiaohui Arrested

Mr. Li Xiaohui was arrested on November 10, 2016.

6. [Tonghua City, Jilin Province] Ms. Wang Shumei Detained

Ms. Wang Shumei, in her 70s, was arrested on the afternoon of November 14, 2016. She is held in the Changliu Detention Center.

7. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Mr. Sun Zhihua Detained

Mr. Sun Zhihua from the Jingyue Economic Development Zone was arrested by officers from the Boxuelu Police Station on November 12, 2016. He is held in the Weizigou Detention Center.

8. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Ms. Yang Fengyuan and Ms. Zhu Xiufen Detained

Ms. Yang Fengyuan and Ms. Zhu Xiufen from Weizigou Township, Jiutai District, were arrested by officers from the Jiutai District Police Department's Domestic Security Division and the Weizigou Police Station on the morning of November 16, 2016 for talking to people about Falun Gong. Their homes were ransacked. The officers confiscated Falun Gong books and materials from Ms. Yang's home. Ms. Zhu's home was in a mess as a result of the ransacking. Ms. Zhu was held in the Jiutai Detention Center for 15 days. Ms. Yang was taken to Changchun City.

9. [Mengyin County, Shandong Province] Ms. Gao Fenglan Detained

Ms. Gao Fenglan was arrested on the morning of November 17, 2016 for handing out calendars. She is held in the Linyi Detention Center.

10. [Gaotang County, Shandong Province] Three Practitioners Arrested

Ms. Jin Guizhi, Ms. Wang Hongyan, and a practitioner surnamed Guo were arrested and taken to the Yangtun Police Station on the afternoon of November 17, 2016 for talking to people about Falun Gong.

11. [Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Guan Lanjiao Detained

Ms. Guan Lanjiao, in her 40s, was followed and arrested at home on the evening of November 3, 2016 for posting Falun Gong materials. Twelve plainclothes officers from the State Security Division and the Tangjia Police Station broke into Ms. Guan's home and ransacked it. They confiscated a desktop computer, a notebook computer, a cell phone, and Falun Gong books. Ms. Guan is held in the Zhuhai City No. 1 Detention Center.

12. [Hengshui City, Hebei Province] Ms. Zhang Rongzhen Harassed

Ms. Zhang Rongzhen, an employee at the Hengshui City No. 3 People's Hospital, was recently pressured to write guarantee statements to renounce Falun Gong.

13. [Qi County, Henan Province] Ms. Wang Mingmei Taken to Brainwashing Center

Ms. Wang Mingmei was taken to the Hebi City Brainwashing Center on November 15, 2016 for talking to people about Falun Gong.

14. [Suizhou City, Hubei Province] Mr. He Jianguo Tortured in Prison

Mr. He Jianguo from Suizhou City, Hubei Procurator, has been transferred from Beijing to Yichang City, Hubei Province. He is held in the Fanjiatai Prison, Shayang County. He was tortured in prison, and was forced to work more than twelve hours a day. He became very thin as a result of torture and other abuse.

15. [Jingzhou County, Hunan Province] Three Practitioners Detained

Ms. Hou Meixiu, Ms. Tan Meihua, and Mr. Wang Yi were reported for distributing Falun Gong booklets in the Jingzhou county seat on November 11, 2016. They were arrested and detained for five days in the county detention center.

16. [Lanzhou City, Gansu Province] Mr. Zhou Wei Arrested

Mr. Zhou Wei from An'ning District was arrested and taken to the Xiguoyuan Prison at the end of September 2016 by officers who had been staked out in wait for him. No further information on his current situation is available.

17. [Jingtai County, Gansu Province] Mr. Zhang Youfu Officially Arrested

Mr. Zhang Youfu, from Baiyin City, was officially placed under arrest on October 14, 2016 by the Jingtai County Procuratorate. He is held in the Baiyin City Detention Center.

18. [Fushun City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Kong Fanxiao Placed in Criminal Detention

Mr. Kong Fanxiao was arrested by officers from the Hedong Police Station on the afternoon of November 18, 2016. He was placed in criminal detention.

19. [Jianchang County, Liaoning Province] Ms. Zhang Fengyun Detained

Ms. Zhang Fengyun from Xiaonianzigou Village, Toudaoyingzi Township, was arrested and taken to the Huludao Detention Center by officers from the Toudaoyingzi Township Police Station and the Domestic Security Division at noon on November 16, 2016.

20. [Chongqing] Mr. Zhang Zebo Taken to Brainwashing Center, Now Released

Mr. Zhang Zebo from Shihui Town, Qianjiang District, was arrested at the Zhengyang Train Station by officers from the Domestic Security Division on September 28, 2016. His whereabouts had been unknown. A month later, it was learned that he had been taken to a brainwashing center. He was held there for over a month before being released.

21. [Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province] Four Practitioners Sentenced to Prison

The Yantai District Court on November 16, 2016 sentenced Ms. Han Qiuli to seven years in prison, Mr. Liu Weidong to four years, Ms. Wang Xiuxia to three years, and Mr. Su Shaohua to two years and two months in prison.

22. [Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province] Formal Arrest Warrant Issued Against Mr. Xiao Wuqun

Mr. Xiao Wuqun was arrested on October 20, 2016 for practicing Falun Gong. The police ransacked his home later that day and confiscated his computer, printer, and Falun Gong materials.

The police issued a formal arrest warrant of Mr. Xiao on November 4 and he is now facing indictment for his faith at the Qinhuai District Detention Center.

23. [Dezhou City, Shandong Province] Three Practitioners Sentenced

Three practitioners were sentenced to prison on November 18 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong.

Ms. Chen Yulan, 75, was given 4 years and 9 months. Ms. Wang Yuqin and Ms. Lv Duomei were given 3-6 years, but their exact sentences remain to be investigated.

All three practitioners were arrested on April 22, 2016 and tried on October 13. They have vowed to appeal their sentences.

24. [Pingdingshan City, Henan Province] Mr. Jiang Junfeng’s Appeal Turned Down

Mr. Jiang Junfeng's appeal against his guilty verdict has been turned down.

Mr. Jiang was sentenced to five years around September 2016 for filing a criminal complaint against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin. He filed an appeal, but the local higher court upheld the original verdict without holding a hearing.

25. [Yingkou City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Wang Guixiang Tried

Ms. Wang Guixiang was tried on November 17 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong. Her lawyer entered a not guilty plea on her behalf, as no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong.

The lawyer also argued that the prosecutor failed to produce physical evidence in court and that the mere presentation of pictures of alleged evidence was insufficient.

The judge adjourned the session without issuing a verdict. Ms. Wang remains detained following her arrest on June 28, 2016.

This is not the first time that the 54-year-old woman has been targeted for her faith. She has been repeatedly arrested and had her home ransacked in the past. She was suspended from her nursing job for 15 years, and her husband divorced her under pressure from the authorities.

26. [Benxi City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Song Yuegang on Hunger Strike

Mr. Song Yuegang has been held in the Benxi Detention Center since he was arrested on June 28, 2016. He was recently told that a trial had been scheduled. Mr. Song started a hunger strike to protest the illegal trial.

27. [Jilin City, Jilin Province] Mr. Bai He’s Case Returned for Retrial

Mr. Bai He was sentenced to three and a half years’ imprisonment on August 5, 2016 by the Fengman District Court because he filed a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin, the former president of China. He appealed to the Jilin Intermediate Court.

Mr. Bai’s lawyer went to the court to review the case at the beginning of September. His file was transferred to the Case Filing Tribunal in mid-September.

Mr. Bai’s lawyer visited him at the beginning of November 2016. Mr. Bai told his lawyer that personnel from the intermediate court questioned him as to whether he would defend himself in court. Mr. Bai said no but the Fengman District did not inform his lawyer.

Mr. Bai’s lawyer called the judge of the intermediate court on November 18, 2016. The judge told him that Mr. Bai’s case had been returned to the Fengman District Court for retrial.

28. [Lingyuan City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Zhang Fengxia Tried

Ms. Zhang Fengxia was arrested by officers from the Lingyuan Domestic Security Division on July 4, 2016. She was tried on the morning of November 14.

Her lawyer pointed out that the prosecutor could not provide evidence showing how Ms. Zhang “damaged the execution of law” – a bogus charge typically leveled at Falun Gong practitioners.
