(Minghui.org) A married couple in Zhucheng City was arrested on November 1 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
This is not the first time that Mr. Wang Hongwei and his wife, Ms. Wang Lili, have been targeted for their faith. The couple was forced to live away from home to avoid arrest in February 2005, only to be seized by police in November 2009. Ms. Wang was soon sentenced to 6 years in prison and Mr. Wang to 10 years.
Ms. Wang was released in 2015 after finishing her term. Mr. Wang also returned home after he became seriously ill in prison, and was released ahead of time.
The couple filed a criminal complaint against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin for ordering the persecution of Falun Gong that resulted in their imprisonment. The police retaliated by raiding the couple’s home on July 15, 2015, but their attempt to arrest the couple failed since they were not in.
The police came for the couple again on November 1, 2016. The couple refused to open the door, and the police broke in and arrested them right in front of Mr. Wang’s elderly parents, who live with them.
Mr. Wang’s father, who had been suffering from a severe brain symptom, was so terrified that he went into a coma two weeks later. He was rushed to the ER and underwent brain surgery. He remains in a coma at the time of writing.
