(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Ma Yonghai and Ms. Mu Rongmin are illegally detained for distributing Shen Yun performance DVDs. Ms. Mu is on a hunger strike to protest her arrest and detention.
They were arrested at a market fair by officers from the Chengnan Police Station on April 23, 2015. Ms. Mu was handing out Shen Yun performance DVDs, when an officer tried to arrest her. Mr. Ma tried to persuade the officer not to arrest Ms. Mu, but instead several police officers were called to the scene who arrested both practitioners.
Mr. Ma is held in the Jidong County Detention Center, while Ms. Mu is held in the Jixi City No. 2 Detention Center. The police ransacked the homes of the practitioners but it is unclear what was confiscated.
Arrested Multiple Times
Mr. Ma, 61 and Ms. Mu, 51 have been arrested and detained multiple times, since the persecution of Falun Gong began in 1999.
Mr. Ma was detained in the Jidong County Detention Center for two months, for appealing for the right to practice Falun Gong in July 1999. He was then detained for 20 days, for unfolding Falun Gong banners in Beijing Tiananmen Square in 2000. He was arrested in April 2003 and escaped from the police department on the same night.
Ms. Mu was taken to the Jixi City brainwashing center by the 610 Office on November 4, 2010. Officers from the 610 Office harassed her when she was hospitalized.
