Decade-Long Family Conflict Resolved

(Minghui.org) I started practicing Falun Gong four years ago. Since then, I have seen my mind and body vastly improve. In particular, I was able to resolve a decade-long family conflict; I have never felt so relieved!

My husband has four brothers, and their parents distributed their real estate assets among them. The will was clearly written for three of the five brothers. However, for the youngest brother and my husband, the middle child, the terms were ambiguous. My husband and I worked out of town most of the time, and didn't know about the issue until his parents had passed away.

Without discussing it with us, the youngest brother demolished the old house and constructed a new one. Despite my strong protests, the youngest brother finished building the new house on the shared land. The oldest brother tried to arbitrate and involved himself in the conflict as well.

After that, I looked upon them and their families as enemies. I would tremble with anger whenever I thought of them and even threatened to bomb the new house. I also forbade my children from seeing them.

My neighbor, Ms. Zhang, is a veteran Falun Gong practitioner. She offered me a lot of advice during those years. I finally joined her in practicing Falun Gong in July 2010. My mood and temper were the first to improve.

I recalled the decade-long family conflict and knew that I had to give up my attachment to money. How I handled this issue would be a reflection of whether I was truly cultivating myself and enduring the pain to improve. It wasn't easy, as I would get riled up whenever the issue crossed my mind.

All in all, it took me three years to overcome this attachment. My husband and I returned to our hometown in October 2013. I arranged for a reunion of the five brothers; it was quite a happy occasion, something that hadn't happened for over 10 years.

I greeted the oldest and youngest brothers warmly and told them, “I am now practicing Falun Gong. My Master teaches me not to fight with others for money and personal gain. I am finally over the house issue. However you guys want to deal with it, it's fine with me.”

They looked at each other and couldn't believe it. When they realized that I meant it, they looked at Falun Gong in a whole new light, as this had been such a longstanding, bitter issue. Everyone was ecstatic that the family was together and harmonious again.

Unexpectedly, later on the youngest brother came to us to acknowledge that we had a stake in the land originally in dispute, and compensated us for our share.
