Police Trying to Arrest Practitioner Meet Resistance from Husband and Boss

(Minghui.org) On December 4, 2015, two police officers broke into Ms. Xie Mingjuan's workplace and attempted to arrest her after she filed a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin, the former Chinese leader who initiated the persecution of Falun Gong. Ms. Xie refused to be taken away and video-recorded the officers.

After a two-hour deadlock, the police agreed to leave on condition that she delete the recordings. As they left, they shouted at her, “It's not over yet!”

During the confrontation, Ms. Xie called her manager and her husband and told them what was happening.

Her manager, the chief of Jidong County Power Supply Bureau in Heilongjiang Province, stood up for her. He called the local police bureau to request her release on bail. An officer said that they were following orders from their superiors.

Her husband came as soon as he heard and spoke out on her behalf.

Below is a detailed account of what happened on that day.

Police Attempt to Arrest Ms. Xie for Suing Jiang

On the morning of December 4, officers Jiang Shan and Xu Jingdi from the Qianjin Police Station in Jidong County went to Ms. Xie's workplace to find out why she had filed a complaint against Jiang Zemin. She told them that Jiang was responsible for the campaign under which Falun Gong practitioners were arrested and tortured for their belief.

The two officers returned that afternoon and ordered her to go with them to the police station, saying that she would be detained.

She refused to go with them and said, “You've got it backwards. It’s you, the law enforcement officers, who are breaking the law. How is submitting a letter of complaint against the law? I definitely won't go with you.”

She then called her boss, husband, and relatives and told them what was going on.

Boss Stands Up for Her

Her manager met the officers and Ms. Xie in his office. She explained to him why she had filed a lawsuit against Jiang. She said, “He persecuted my whole family. I have to sue him!”

Her boss refused to let the police to take her away. “She is my employee. It's working hours. You can't take her away!”

Officer Jiang Shan responded, “We are just following orders. We have to take her in and report to our supervisor.”

Her boss called officials at the local police bureau and asked them to release her on bail, but they refused. He was told that they were simply following orders from higher-level authorities, that no one could help her, and that she had to be detained for five days.

Ms. Xie told her boss not to worry about her, and said she would by no means go with them.

Support from Husband

After the confrontation in her boss’s office, Ms. Xie went downstairs to the business hall on the ground floor of the building. She went behind the counter and video-recorded officer Xu Jingdi, who followed her closely, with her phone.

Her husband arrived and began recording the police, too. The officers attempted to grab their cell phones, but failed.

They remained in a standoff until both officers were standing in the business hall. She then locked them out while she stayed behind the glass.

Her husband was sitting in the business hall while she talked to the police. He told them, “There's no way she'll go with you today. You've played tricks every time you've arrested her. To be detained for only five days? Nobody is going to believe what you say ever again.”

Her husband explained why he supported his wife so much: “I strongly support her practicing Falun Gong. She is very kind to my parents.”

Police Don't Want Their Names on the Minghui Website

The officers failed to find anyone to pick the lock. Three more officers from Qianjin Police Station eventually appeared.

Ms. Xie recorded them as well and warned, “If you arrest me today, these recordings are the evidence of your crimes.”

“I’ve written down your names and will send in a report to the Minghui website.” She noted the names of the three officers: Jiang Shan, Xu Jingdi, and Dong Hongjun.

After two hours, Officer Xu promised to leave if she deleted the recordings.

All five officers left after Ms. Xie deleted the recordings. Jiang Shan said as he left, “It’s not over yet. Go to the police station at eight o'clock tomorrow morning.” She replied, “And I am telling you: I did not do anything against the law. No way I'm going.”

More Practitioners in Heilongjiang Province Persecuted

The "higher-level authorities" the police were referring to were the Jixi City government and the Heilongjiang Provincial government, which has set a quota that at least 60 practitioners must be arrested in Jixi City.

The newly-appointed Communist Party Secretary of Jidong County, Jixi City had ordered all signs and stickers about Falun Gong to be removed. He also promised a 2000-yuan (~$320 USD) reward to anyone who reports Falun Gong practitioners to the police.

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
