(Minghui.org) Ms. Liu Suhuan, a 65-year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Anshan City, was arrested for handing out calendars with information about the persecution of Falun Gong on Nov. 13.

The police proceeded to illegally search her home, as well as the home of her sister Ms. Liu Shuzhi, also a Falun Gong practitioner. Police confiscated all the valuables the sisters possessed, including computers, cash, salary payment cards, and deeds to their apartments.

Ms. Liu Suhuan is currently detained at Anshan Women's Detention Center. Her sister Liu Shuzhi was not home when police did their search, and decided not to return home to avoid likely arrest.

Falun Gong is a meditation practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. Like many others, the Liu sisters have been subjected to illegal arrests, detention, and torture in the past 16 years for their belief in Falun Gong.

Older Sister's Experience

Ms. Liu Suhuan was previously arrested in October 2007 for posting information about Falun Gong. She was sentenced to six years in prison.

In 2003, police arrested her after finding materials in her bag that exposed the persecution of Falun Gong. She was sentenced to three years at Dabei Prison, where she was often beaten, verbally abused, and not allowed to sleep. When she could not finish work assigned to her, she was taken to the prison office and shocked with electric batons. Ms. Liu was released in 2006.

Ms. Liu was arrested again and given three years of forced labor camp in 2000. During her incarceration, she went on a hunger strike to protest ill treatment. She was force-fed and became very sick. She was diagnosed with acute pneumonia. Officials released her to her family after they were forced to pay 1,000 yuan. However, before Ms. Liu fully recovered, labor camp guards took her back to the hospital. Ms. Liu jumped out of a window trying to escape. Unfortunately, she broke her spine and was paralyzed. She was sent home and eventually recovered after two years.

Prior to that, Ms. Liu Suhuan wrote and delivered a letter to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong in December 1999. She was taken to a local police station. A man beat her with a rubber tube until she could hardly breathe. Police hung her up by her arms and feet, parallel to the ground. They beat her with batons, and then forced her to stand for a whole night. She was given 15 days of detention.

Younger Sister's Experience

Ms. Liu Suzhi was last arrested in September 2007 for telling others about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was illegally sentenced to six years in prison, where she was severely tortured.

Prior to that, Ms. Liu was arrested along with four or five other Falun Gong practitioners in 2001. She was sentenced to five years in Dabei Prison. Prison guards poked her with pins on her arms, legs, and back. Her body was covered with blood. She was also forced to sit on a tiny stool that was four inches wide and one and a half inches high for long periods. For several days in a row, prison police shocked her with electric batons. She was often physically abused by other inmates, also. She was released in March 2006.

In 1999, Ms. Liu was arrested on route to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, she was illegally detained for 15 days. Police continued to harass her after she returned home. She was forced to leave home to avoid further persecution.

Both sisters have spent more than 11 of the past 16 years incarcerated because the persecution of Falun Gong launched by former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin. The sisters filed criminal complaints against Jiang in July 2015 for causing them great harm and tremendous suffering.

Background

In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.

The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.

Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.

Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
