Becoming a Better Person

(Minghui.org) I saw a group of people meditating in the garden of a plaza in May 1999. I walked over because I was curious. A man came up to me, and said: "We are practicing Falun Gong. This practice is very good. It cannot only improve one's health but also elevate one's moral standard. In this way, you can become a better person.”

I was happy hearing this and realized that I wanted to be a good person, too. I immediately started practicing Falun Gong. Since then, I have practiced the exercises together with others every morning, and I study the Fa in the evenings.

Soon after I started to practice, the acne on my face disappeared. One day my colleague Ms. Liu asked me, "Wow, the acne on your face is gone. Your skin has become so fair and good. What secret pills do you take?"

I told her: "I am practicing Falun Gong. I have practiced less than one month, but not only is my acne gone, even the warts I suffered from for many years are gone, too. Also, the brown spots on my body disappeared." She was glad to hear this and encouraged me to continue.

Cultivating Amid Society

Master teaches us to become better people by following Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. So, I strive to improve my morality.

I worked in the housekeeping department at a hotel. Before I took up the practice, I often took many toothbrushes home. My colleagues did the same. They also said that it was a waste if we did not take these things. After learning Dafa, however, I returned those things to the hotel.

We have a lot of guests every day. Some guests will forget their watches, wallets, cell phones, necklaces, and so on, in the hotel rooms. I always notified the other hotel staff when I found them, and when the guests were still in the hotel, I personally returned the items to them. Had the guests left already, I would give the items to my supervisor.

A month before I started to practice Falun Gong in April 1999, I was sweeping under the cabinets in a restroom. I swept out a gold ring, a silver ring, and a gold earring. I quietly took them home and handed them to my parents. After learning Falun Gong, I understood the principles of "loss and gain." I then turned over this jewelry to my manager.

I would also come to work early and leave late. I was very responsible in my work, and at the end of 1999, I was elected as an “Outstanding Employee.”

Cultivating Continuously Onward

On July 20, 1999, the Jiang regime started to persecute Falun Gong nationwide. My manager talked to me and said, “Falun Gong is banned now, and you should write a guarantee statement renouncing Falun Gong." I cried, and reminded him of how I had completely improved as a person, how I even went so far out of my way to return the items I had taken from the hotel, and how I had returned the jewelry. I saw my manager's eyes fill with tears; he did not say a word and left.

Since then, I studied the Fa openly at my workplace, and also after finishing my work. Sometimes, my manager saw I was reading, but he did not say anything and went the other way. Even during the most hectic days when the persecution was very severe, my environment was relatively relaxed. When the police came to the hotel to look for me, my colleagues at the front desk told them I was away. They were quietly protecting me. However, after I went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong freely in March 2000, I was fired.

A fellow practitioner helped me to get a job at a factory in the summer of 2000. But, when another practitioner was arrested, she gave the police my name. The police came to the factory and took me in for interrogation. Afterward, they ransacked my home. I was detained for 10 days, even though they did not find any evidence.

My brother picked me up from the detention center and took me to the factory to get my salary, but the director of the factory did not want me to go. He told my brother: "Your sister really works hard. She did a better job than those young people. Let her continue to work here."

I worked there for one more month. However, the owner was under more pressure, and soon the police told him he had to let me go. The director called me into his office and told me that, even though he wanted to keep me on, he had no choice but to fire me. I thanked him for his time, reminded him of the goodness of Falun Gong, and left.

Holding Firm

While I was working at a mall selling DVDs in 2005, a police officer came to look for me and pressured me to write a guarantee statement that I would not go to Beijing any more to appeal for Falun Gong. She first went to my manager and director. Since I willingly helped others, my colleagues liked to work with me, and my superiors liked me as well.

When the officer found me and wanted me to sign the statement, I told her, "I will not sign it. I did not break any laws. According to the law, we have freedom of belief. Why should I sign this?" She acknowledged that my superiors all said I was a good person, so I replied, "My Master teaches us to be better people, so we are good wherever we are." She left, and at the end of the year I was elected as “Outstanding Employee” and presented with certificates and prizes.

I met my neighbor after work once in 2010. She asked me, "Do you still live with him? I thought you would have left a long time ago.” I knew what she meant. My husband had lost several jobs due to the persecution, and his mental state was not very good. I have supported my family alone financially for many years. My mother-in-law has helped us some. However, our family of three does not have an easy life.

I told her: "He is a very good person, and he treats his family well. He was stressed too much by the persecution, so he was dismissed from his civil servant position. He lost three jobs consecutively due to the persecution, so I cannot abandon him because he cannot work now.

Our Master teaches us to be nice to everyone, not to mention to our family members. Falun Gong is a high-level practice of the Buddha school. It teaches people to be good, and helps to improve both physically and mentally. It is not like what is being told on TV."

Her eyes became teary, and she told me I was a good person. Since then, she no longer discriminated against me like she did before. She now cares about me and is no longer hostile toward Falun Gong.

Falun Gong is a real cultivation practice of high virtue! I wrote this article in the hopes that people who have been deceived by the communist party's lies can learn the truth about Falun Gong so they will have a good future.
