Ms. Ge Xiuli Begins 8-Year Sentence in Shijiazhuang Women’s Prison

(Minghui.org) After being sentenced to eight years, Ms. Ge Xiuli, a Falun Gong practitioner from Jing County, Hebei Province, was sent to Shijiazhuang Women'sPrison on July 17, 2014. When Ms. Ge’s husband and son visited the prison recently, they were not allowed to see her. A guard told them that the prison rules do not allow family visits during the first three months.

Ms. Ge was handed an eight-year sentence by the Jing County court on April 18, following a hearing on April 1, 2014. She and her family appealed to the Hengshui Intermediate Court.

On June 2014, judge Li He of Hengshui Intermediate Court told Ms. Ge’s husband that the court would conduct a closed-door trial. Ms. Ge’s lawyer twice requested an open trial. But to everyone’s surprise, judge Li He decided to uphold the original verdict on July 7, 2014, and sent Ms. Ge to prison for eight years.

Ms. Ge’s husband made a phone call to judge Li He at the intermediate court asking about his wife's situation. Li He told him that Ms. Ge was sent to Shijiazhuang Women’s Prison, in Prison Zone 13, on July 17.

Ms. Ge Xiuli was arrested on September 13, 2013, for distributing information about the persecution of Falun Gong. A signature drive for her rescue was held in her local area. Many people signed the petition calling for Ms. Ge’s immediate release.
