(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zuo Kangwei, 55, was sentenced to three years in prison in Huaian City, Jiansu Province on August 22, 2014. This is the second time that she has been illegally sentenced. Her family is going to appeal the sentence.

Ms. Zuo was arrested on March 5, 2014, at the dormitory area of the Huaiyin Institute of Technology. She was taken to the Jiankang Road Police Station, where she was beaten. She was transferred to the Huaian Detention Center that evening. She was indicted by the Qinghe District Procuroratorate after being held for 12 days and charged with “utilizing cult organizations to sabotage law enforcement.”

She was tried on June 18 at Qinghe District Court. Her husband, Mr. Wang Shixin, also a practitioner, pleaded not-guilty for her. He argued: Falun Gong promotes Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and requires that practitioners live by these principles. He continued to explain that a practitioner should not hit back when attacked, not talk back when insulted, and should be a good person whether he is in public, at work or at home. That is why Falun Gong attracted tens of millions of followers and is now practiced in over 100 countries worldwide. He pointed out that Falun Gong is only banned in China. He finished by saying that it is obvious that Falun Gong is not a cult.

Kang Lili, a procurator of the Qinghe District, when questioned, was speechless and could not validate the evidence that the police put together. The court ended up calling an adjournment.

The procurator and officers from the Jiankanglu Police Station did not want to lose the lawsuit and submitted additional evidence to the court. The court tried Ms. Zuo again on July 30. Ms. Zuo denied the evidence and her husband questioned them. The session ended in less than 30 minutes. Despite the lack of evidence, the court sentenced Ms. Zuo later to three years in prison.
