(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Guo Yunlan was illegally sentenced to three years in prison even though she is suffering hemiplegic paralysis. Her family has been trying to get her out on medical parole, but the prison has not only rejected their request, but also subjected Ms. Guo to forced labor. Her family is extremely concerned about her. When they went to visit her on August 8, 2014, they were once again denied admission.

Sentenced to Three Years in Prison Despite Severe High Blood Pressure and Stroke Symptoms

After Ms. Guo was arrested on June 20, 2013, she was diagnosed with symptoms of a stroke and high blood pressure. Because of her poor health, the Dandong Detention Center refused to accept her. However, chief judge Li Xintian and judge Han Guiyuan from the Donggang Court had the hospital falsify her medical record and forced the detention center to admit her.

When the Donggang Court put Ms. Guo on trial on August 5, 2013, only her daughter was allowed in the courtroom. No verdict was handed down that day. A week later, Ms. Gao was secretly sentenced to three years of imprisonment.

On August 21, Ms. Guo was transferred to Liaoning Women's Prison even though she was paralyzed on one side of her body and could not take care of herself. The prison authorities took her to the Masanjia Prison Hospital.

The Masanjia Ward of Liaoning Women's Prison used to be called the No. 2 Section of Masanjia Forced Labor Camp and is the most notorious section of the camp. Zhang Huan is the head officer. It's said that all Falun Gong practitioners with sentences under three years are detained in the Masanjia Ward.

When Ms. Guo's husband went to visit her, he saw that she could not walk with assistance. Both her mental and physical condition were very poor. The officers told him that his wife should be eligible for “medical parole,” but because she refused to give up practicing Falun Gong, she was denied bail.

On February 18, 2014, when Ms. Guo's husband and their daughter went to visit her again, the officers tried to force her husband to agree with the persecution of Falun Gong. He refused and said, “I don't agree. My wife is only a housewife. You arrested her and brought her here. Our family life has been turned upside down. What do you want me to agree to?” The officers then refused to allow them to see Ms. Guo.

Defense Lawyer Denied Visitation

The defense lawyer Ms. Guo's family hired for her tried to meet with her several times and tried to apply for medical parole on her behalf, but the prison rejected his requests using all kinds of excuses.

When he went to visit her the second time after being rejected earlier in December 2013, the police changed their story and said that Ms. Guo was not eligible for medical parole. They claimed that there were more than 12 Falun Gong practitioners in the prison whose physical condition was as bad as Ms. Guo's, and that she was not the worst. In other words, in addition to Ms. Guo, there are more than 12 other practitioners in critical condition in the prison.

Her lawyer appealed to the Bureau of Prison Management and was granted the right to meet with her. However, when he and another lawyer went to see Ms. Guo with the authorization letter from the bureau on June 19, 2014, they were again denied entry.

Police officer Zhang Huan said that the letter was “out of date,” that they had to get a letter dated the same day of their visit, and that that was the prison's rule. However, the lawyers were able to meet with another practitioner, Ms. Teng Xiuling, that afternoon. It seems that the prison can make up and alter the "rules" as they wish.
