(Minghui.org) Ms. Wan Taoying is a Falun Gong practitioner from Jinxian County, Wuzhou City, in Jiangxi Province. She was illegally arrested by local police, and has been held at the Jinxian County Detention Center for over a year. She was tortured there, which resulted in injuries.
Ms. Wan, who is in her fifties, is a resident of Sanli Township, in Jinxian County, Jiangxi Province. Police from the Jinxian County Domestic Security Division arrested her when she was leaving a friend's home on April 30, 2013, and took her to the Jinxian County Detention Center.
Staff from the Domestic Security Division told her family on their arrival that they didn't have permission to arrest her, and that she would be released very soon. However, Ms. Wan's family found out that this was not true.
Ms. Wan's arrest was actually premeditated, and her file had been transferred to the Jinxian County Procuratorate in September 2013. The Procuratorate refused to discuss the matter with her lawyer, who was hired by her family to defend her.
The lawyer went to see Ms. Wan at the Jinxian County Detention Center on April 22, 2014. He launched a protest at the Jinxian County Court and Procuratorate. He stated, “According to the No.124 article in the 'Code of Criminal Procedure', one's detention period should not exceed two months. However, Ms. Wan has been held for more than one year, which is in violation of the 'Code of Criminal Procedure'.”
Ms. Wan's health was affected while in the detention center. Despite the lawyer's intervention, Ms. Wan is still being detained.
