(Minghui.org) Neighborhood watch groups generally care about the safety and well-being of residents. Not so in China. The Dongyang North Street Committee spies on residents and takes orders from the local communist authorities.

In this continuing saga of unremitting harassment and vitriol, local CCP committees, law enforcement bureaus, and 610 Offices have conspired together to make a good family’s life difficult.

On April 2, 2014, the Dongyang North Street Committee collaborated with a local 610 Office staffer to break into the home of Li Kun's sister. Li is serving a 14-year illegal sentence in prison for practicing Falun Gong. Liang Guifen, his wife, who is also a Falun Gong practitioner, is facing an illegal trial.

This was the third harassment by local authorities since Liang's trial in the appellate court on February 20, which adjourned and was to be rescheduled.

Threats and Harassment

Committee member Fang Lin, along with another committee member named Wang, a 610 Office official named Guo, and two police officers, forced their way into the home of Liang's sister-in-law, who lived in the township of Shuidong in Maoming City, Guangdong Province.

“Why are you here?” the sister-in-law asked.

“We were just passing by and thought we’d stop in,” Fang said.

“You never come to a house without a reason. Don’t lie.”

Guo laid out the real reason. “You brought more than 30 people to your sister-in-law’s trial just to disrupt the proceedings.”

“Wasn't the trial open to the public?” the sister-in-law said. “I didn’t organize anything. As a matter of fact, Falun Gong practitioners try to be good people.”

“Stop talking. You’re trying to confuse me,” Guo said.

Liang’s sister-in-law continued talking, “The court imprisoned my brother for his belief which left only my sister-in-law to support her mother-in-law and three children. Now she is imprisoned and my brother is still in jail. No one is caring for my mother. You have destroyed our family.” She began to cry.

Guo seemed to search for an explanation for the arrest. “Your sister-in-law helped so many people to practice Falun Gong. We just couldn’t allow that.”

“They are all in their seventies and eighties. She saved the government money for their care because they try to be good people and not burden anyone.

“No matter,” Guo said. “If more practitioners come around, I'll hold you responsible.”

As previously reported, communist authorities arrested and incarcerated Liang's husband Li Kun and her son Li Xinhua in 2002 for their belief in Falun Gong. Liang’s husband was sentenced to a 14-year term at the provincial Sihui Prison, and their son, not yet 18 at the time, was given a five-year term.

The Minghui website has reported on this sad tale from the start, when this good family was torn apart by the government regime, for their belief in Falun Gong. Several reports detail Liang’s detention and farcical trial, including forged evidence, and the police attacking Liang’s relatives in the courtroom.

Crooked Trial of Liang Guifen

Liang was sentenced for 3.5 years in prison by the Maogang Court, in Maoming, Guangdong, in December 2013, two days before Christmas. She appealed to the Maoming Intermediate Court on December 31, 2013.

During the Maoming Intermediate Court trial on February 20, Liang presented a lawful request to remove all CCP members from the court. Since he himself was a CCP member, the judge was forced to adjourn the trial to a later date.

During the proceedings, Liang’s attorney did not defend her according to her wishes. When the family asked for the reason, the attorney said he feared for his life.

The Minghui website reported how her daughter described that the police and court system destroyed her family. Li Songrong sent a letter to officers in the eighth supervision group of the Maoming central government and court, setting out the CCP’s persecution of her family.
