Attorneys Deliver a Strong Defense for Mr. Zhao Gangxian, Unlawfully Tried for His Belief in Falun Gong

At the illegal trial of Mr. Zhao Gangxian by Bazhou District Court on April 1, 2014, his two attorneys delivered a convincing argument defending his right to practice Falun Gong. The public prosecutor was rendered speechless, and the judge adjourned the session without declaring a verdict.

Powerful Defense Renders Prosecutor Speechless

When the hearing began, Mr. Zhao stated that he abides by Falun Gong's principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, he did not commit any crime, and it is not wrong to distribute factual information about Falun Gong.

Two attorneys from Guizhou Province and Nanchong City in Sichuan Province, delivered a strong defense from the perspective of the law and basic morality. They thoroughly refuted the trumped-up charges by the prosecutor one by one, and with rational arguments drew a clear conclusion: “Believing in Falun Gong is not a crime.” The prosecutor was speechless, as it was clear that the prosecution had no case.

Mr. Zhao Gangxian's family and relatives and friends anxiously await the court's verdict.

Courthouse Heavily Guarded

Many locals were outraged when the authorities arrested 65-year-old Mr. Zhao on October 5, 2013, leaving his wife, who was recovering from a snakebite, unattended at home. She died just 21 days after her husband's arrest.

In support of Mr. Zhao, many people showed up at the courthouse on the trial date. However, none of them were allowed inside.

The court dispatched more than ten special agents from Enyang district, and ten more policemen from Bazhou district. A total of forty armed policemen patrolled the area, while 610 Office agents took photos and videos of people outside the court and questioned passersby.

When the trial began at 9:30 a.m., the courtroom was crawling with police officers. Ten of Mr. Zhao's family members and relatives sat in the public gallery. Policemen and plainclothes agents sat close by to monitor them.
