Ms. Zhang Xiaojie's Trial Re-scheduled for the Third Time

(Minghui.org) When Ms. Zhang Xiaojie's attorney protested that her handcuffs had not been removed in the courtroom, judge Zhang Shuxia canceled the two trials scheduled on April 28 and May 19, and re-scheduled a third trial on May 23.

Ms. Zhang, 46, was illegally arrested on June 10, 2013 and has since been detained at the Qinhuangdao No. 1 Detention Center. She was handcuffed and shackled for two weeks.

Instead of stopping the inmate who was verbally abusing Ms. Zhang, prison guard Ma Mei dragged Ms. Zhang out of the cell and used hot pepper spray on her several times throughout the day.

When Ms. Zhang returned from the court on May 19, Ma Mei became mad at her for not reporting to her. Since her attorney was there, Ma didn't do anything to Ms. Zhang. She threatened her, however, “You will have a hard time once you come back!”
