(Minghui.org) Mr. Zhang Lei was arrested by a half dozen police officers around 9 p.m. on April 24.
That day, Mr. Zhang, a Falun Gong practitioner who lives near Xiaoheyan, Shenyang City, was visiting with his mother, Bao Yan, 57. Previously, she had been arrested, subjected to extortion, and displaced for telling people the facts about the persecution of Falun Gong. When she heard one of the officers ask her son about her whereabouts, Ms. Bao jumped from the 4th floor to avoid arrest. The leap resulted in injuries to her right foot and hip.
Ms. Bao managed to climb to the fifth floor apartment of another building. The family there was startled and sent Ms. Bao to Ms. Jiang Jun's home near Xiaojinjiao around 10 p.m. About four hours later, Ms. Bao and Ms. Jiang were arrested by officers from the Shenyang Domestic Security Division. The officers took Ms. Bao to a hospital and confiscated around 40,000 yuan from Ms. Jiang with the excuse of covering the cost for surgery.
The Shenyang Domestic Security Division orchestrated the arrest. Several stations arrested more than a dozen Falun Gong practitioners in the campaign. The Zhonghua Police Station was responsible for arresting several practitioners.
Because of her injury, Ms. Bao needs to be looked after around the clock. And while there is no information available in regards to Mr. Zhang's whereabouts, the family has urged Mr. Zhang's release so that he can take care of his mother.
Who Should Be Responsible for the Injury?
Ms. Bao cannot sit or stand comfortably, and she needs to be looked after around the clock. It was the attempted arrest by the local police officers that put her in this condition.
After her injury the authorities tried to distance themselves from responsibility. On one occasion, a local officer called Ms. Bao's older brother and lied to him: “We ran into your sister on the street. She was already in bad shape, so we took her to a hospital.” Ms. Bao's brother thanked the police officer for what the station had done. He later drove Ms. Bao home, and only then did he find out that his sister's injury was a result of the attempted arrest.
Ms. Bao's brother now has to take care of his own family as well as Ms. Bao. He hopes that soon Mr. Zhang will be released so that he can look after his mother.
Mr. Zhang Needs to Be Released
Ms. Bao's other relatives have also requested that the authorities release Mr. Zhang so that he can look after his mother. However, they do not know where Mr. Zhang is being detained.
