Mr. Li Leyou Severely Abused in Jilin Prison

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Leyou, a technician at the Baihe Forestry Bureau in Jilin Province, has been brutally tortured in Jilin Prison because he refuses to renounce his belief.

Mr. Li was arrested on August 13, 2011, and illegally sentenced to three years in prison on December 9, 2011.

Tortured in Prison

Mr. Li was first incarcerated in "Education Ward" No. 514 in Jilin Prison. Guards Wang Yuanchun, Kou Wenbin, and Liu Longfei shocked him and then abetted criminal inmates to repeatedly beat him and shock him with electric batons. They stomped on his knees and pinched his calves.

Because he refused to be "transformed," he was forced to sit in the full lotus position for seven hours every day, for more than 20 days. He limped for several months as a result. Because he was mistreated, he had a relapse of tuberculosis and heart disease.

Family Seeks Justice

Mr. Li was visited by his family before the 2014 Chinese New Year. He was sluggish and unresponsive as a result of torture and the effects of unknown drugs. He was so weak that the guard had to hold the phone for him. Even so, he could not speak.

To find out what happened to him in prison, his family asked to see the warden. They were told that no one could help them. His family is worried about his poor health and hopes he will come home soon.

Mr. Li's family called the chief of the hospital and was told that he would be released soon, since he already wrote the three statements to renounce Falun Gong. When they asked if he could make the final say, the hospital chief replied, “Only the 610 Office has the final say.”

Mr. Li's family is demanding that all those responsible be punished and that Mr. Li be released.

Unlawfully Sentenced to Prison

Leng Jing, deputy head of the organization department of the Changbaishan Management Committee, and officers from the Domestic Security Division of the Baihe Forestry Police Department broke into Mr. Li's home on August 13, 2011; arrested him; and took him to the No. 2 Police Station. Afterward, they took him to a hospital for a physical. When it was discovered that he had active tuberculosis, they released him that evening, after he had been subjected to a series of interrogations and tortures.

The police arrested Mr. Li again on August 17, saying that he needed to have another physical at the Antu County Hospital. Mr. Li has not returned home since.

Mr. Li was tried and sentenced to three years in prison on December 9. His family appealed that judgment to a higher court in Yanbian Prefecture. The court upheld the original judgment eight months later without notifying his family. Mr. Li was sent to Jilin Prison in August 2012.
