(Minghui.org) On March 22, 2014, an unusual scene unfolded on Nanhai Square in Foshan City, Guangdong Province.

A wheelchair-bound woman in her 80s was appealing in public against the illegal detention of her daughter, when a group of local police arrived and began shouting obscenities at her. The police then forcibly took away her daughter-in-law Xie Ruixiang and grandson Jie Wenke, who were there to assist her. The daughter-in-law and grandson are now being held at Nanhai District Detention Center.

This elderly woman's daughter, Ms. Deng Caijuan, was twice sent labor camps for her belief in Falun Gong and has been imprisoned for a total of six years. Most recently, Ms. Deng was seized by police while waiting for a ride home on December 20, 2013. The local authorities kept her family in the dark regarding her whereabouts, and only recently did the family find out that she had been sent to Nanhai District Detention Center.

Ms. Deng's mother has been seeking her release since she vanished last December, but she has been turned away at every attempt. The local authorities bounced her back and forth between different departments, yet no one gave her a direct response to her inquiry about her daughter's condition and request for her release.

With no legal channel to seek justice, Ms. Deng's mother conducted two public protests, on March 16 and 22, respectively.

Two Public Protests by Ms. Deng's Mother

On March 22, 2014, Ms. Deng's mother asked her daughter-in-law to push her to the Nanhai Square in Foshan City, where she spoke out about the suffering of her daughter to passersby and handed out copies of her written appeal statement. Many expressed sympathy upon learning the facts and condemned the atrocities committed by the CCP police.

Shortly thereafter, two carloads of police arrived, along with more than ten security guards and plainclothes police who came on motorbikes. They surrounded the woman and her daughter-in-law and verbally abused them. Then, in front of the crowd of onlookers, they bound the daughter-in-law's hands behind her back with a plastic strip and dragged her into a police car.

Ms. Deng's mother struggled to get out of her wheelchair and staggered to the police car, begging them not to take her daughter-in-law away. She was pushed aside by six or seven security guards and the car sped away.

The remaining police ordered crowd to leave, threatening them not to take any photos. One officer yelled at a young man, ordering him to delete the photos taken with his cell phone. Still, some passersby managed to video-record the whole incident.

People crowded around Ms. Deng's mother and asked about what had happened to her daughter. Some took a copy of her appeal statement to read about the persecution she experienced. One of them said with indignation, “People are suffering every day and they have nowhere to seek justice. Now, they can't even talk to people about their grievances. What sort of society is this?”

As the police were leaving, a few of them turned back and took away the daughter-in-law's son as well. Both the daughter-in-law and her son are said to be detained at Nanhai Detention Center.

Earlier on March 16, Ms. Deng's mother went out to tell people about the persecution of her daughter in front of the Zhongshan Park. She was harassed by police that time as well.

Ms. Deng Persecuted Relentlessly for Her Belief

Ms. Deng Caijuan is a 44-year-old resident of Chancheng District. She has suffered repeated persecution over the years for practicing Falun Gong. In addition to six years of detention in two labor camps, she has been illegally detained in brainwashing centers many times and suffered multiple forms of torture.

After she was illegally arrested in December 2013, her family members were turned away when seeking information about Ms. Deng. A police officer at Nanhai Public Security Appeals Office said to her family members, “The police won't bear any responsibility even if they violate the law, because they are under the Party's protection. You don't need to come here any more. There is no use.” He then ordered the police to throw them out.
