A Good Son Illegally Sentenced to Prison, His 89-Year-Old Bedridden Mom Has No One to Care for Her

(Minghui.org) Suning County Court in Hebei Province secretly sentenced Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Pei Wenhai to four years in prison on January 2, 2014. Mr. Pei has now been taken to Tangshan No. 4 Prison, leaving his 89-year-old bedridden mother at home with no one to care for her. Her life is now in grave danger.

On April 18, 2013, Mr. Pei went to Nanta Market on business. While he was there, he talked to people about Falun Gong and the persecution, and was illegally arrested by officers from the Shisu Township Police Station.

They confiscated over 1,000 yuan in cash that he was carrying and took him to a detention center. Later, several agents from the Suning County Domestic Security Division, led by village Party Secretary Pei Guangde, broke into Mr. Pei's home and ransacked it. They took all of his Dafa books, CDs, and 700 yuan in cash.

Mr. Pei was detained in Suning County Detention Center. His family and friends hired a lawyer for him, but presiding judge Wang Manqing and judge Xu Fufang deliberately made things difficult for the lawyer, to prevent him from appearing in court to defend Mr. Pei.

Zhao Zongyao, head of the Suning County 610 Office, ordered: “We must do all we can to prevent the Beijing lawyer from defending his client in court. Even if we fail to prevent him from appearing in court, he is absolutely not allowed to speak in bringing up Article 300 of the Criminal Law. They all use that article in their defense. We have orders from our superiors that from now on, lawyers are not allowed to base their defense on Article 300 of the Criminal Law.”

On October 13, Mr. Pei Wenhai spoke on his own behalf at the trial. He stated that he didn't commit any crime by refusing to give up his belief.

Mr. Pei, 56, is from Fuzuo Village, Fuzuo Township of Suning County. Because he conducts himself according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, he is known in the local area for being a kind and honest person and a filial son.

Mr. Pei used to be weak and sickly before he practiced Falun Gong. He was frequently ill with seasonal colds and flu. He also couldn't do any heavy work because of the pain in his legs. After he started practicing Falun Gong, all of his illnesses disappeared and he enjoyed good health. However, simply because he refused to give up the practice, he was sentenced to four years in prison on New Year's Day in 2004 and two years of forced labor in 2009.
