(Minghui.org) An elderly lady from Tianjin was arrested recently by police officers, who claimed they had come to check her residence permit.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Ran Guanquan, 66, is a resident of Tanggu, Binhai New District, Tianjin. She has been held at the Binhai New District No. 1 Detention Center since her illegal arrest on September 3, 2014.

Home Ransacked and Arrested

The arrest was preceded by an unexpected visit by officers from the local residential committee, who requested to check her residence permit.

After they left, a group of police officers from the local Xiangyang Police Station came to her home and checked her ID card and residence permit. Without any search warrant, they ransacked her home and confiscated her Falun Gong books, a printer, computer, CDs, and money.

The police then ordered Ms. Ran to go with them to the local police station, saying that they would let her go home after asking her some questions.

She was taken to the Xiangyang Police Station, and not released afterwards. She was transferred to the Binghai New District No. 1 Detention Center the next morning.

Framed by False Charges—Bail Request Denied

Ms. Ran's family became anxious when they noticed that she had not been released as the police promised. They went to the local police station to obtain her release, but were told that she had been arrested as ordered by the Tianjin Police. “She has confessed everything,” they said. The family asked, “What did she have to confess?” The police refused to say.

They wanted to know more details about her arrest, but got no convincing reply.

The family then hired a lawyer, who during the case study, noticed that the charges against Ms. Ran were completely baseless. He examined Ms. Ran's signature on the document and noticed that all statements which endorsed the indictment were not signed by her. The only place where he found her signature to be authentic was under the statement “refuse to sign.” This indicated that the police were attempting to fabricate charges against Ms. Ran in order to justify her arrest and detention.

The lawyer then applied for bail for Ms. Ran, but it was rejected.

Background on Ms. Ran

Ms. Ran had been plagued with many diseases, including heart disease and asthma, and was too feeble to work, since she was thirty years old. She got better six months after she began practicing Falun Gong. She became a happy grandmother, who shared most of her family's housework.
