(Minghui.org) In defense of Ms. Zhen Shuyun, her lawyer from Guangdong Province pleaded not guilty. He tried to rebut the prosecutors' charges against his client, but the judge repeatedly interrupted his defense presentation. In the end, the trial was adjourned.

Ms. Zhen Shuyun, 60, a retired worker, was illegally arrested at home and held in the Hurudao Detention Center. The police searched her house on July 17, 2014 and confiscated Falun Gong books and materials, a printer, computer, cell phone and other personal items.

The prosecutor charged her with “using a cult to sabotage the enforcement of law,” a trumped-up accusation commonly used by China's legal system to persecute Falun Gong. He based his charges on a prior sentencing to a labor camp for practicing Falun Gong.

The attorney said: “My client is a Falun Gong practitioner. All Falun Gong materials in her possession were allowed under existing Chinese law. She practices it for better health at home. This does not interfere with anyone in society, nor sabotage the enforcement of existing Chinese law.”The attorney further said that her prior three year sentence was handed down without going through a trial. She was detained in the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, where she was tortured, which was a violation of the Chinese Constitution and Chinese law.

Without preempt, the presiding judge interrupted and warned him not to mention the forced labor camp sentence. He claimed that what happened in the past was not relevant to this case.

The attorney challenged the judge's assertion: “The evidence offered by the prosecutor was illegal and is not applicable to this case. The prosecution has accused Ms. Zhen of “using a cult to sabotage the enforcement of law,” which falls within the category of disturbing social order. However, the evidence offered does not support that charge and therefore my client is innocent.”

The judge repeatedly interrupted the attorney’s defense arguments, as well as Ms. Zhen when she tried to speak in her defense. She spoke of the benefits she derived from practicing Falun Gong, and of becoming a good person because of living by the Falun Gong principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. The judge also interrupted her statements and adjourned the trial.
