Ms. Chen Xingguang is a Falun Gong practitioner from Ningde City, Fujian Province. During the past 14 years of the persecution of Falun Gong in China, she was sentenced to five years in prison, and taken to forced labor twice for a total of two years. She has spent a total of eight years and nine months in prison, suffering inhuman mental and physical torture.

Sentenced to Five Years in Prison, Tortured with Unknown Drug Administration, Electric Shock, and Sleep Deprivation

When Ms. Chen was visiting a friend on August 26, 2001, about five police officers from the Domestic Security Division, including Yang Rihai and Ruan Xizhang, broke into her friend's home and arrested her.

Ms. Chen was bound to an iron chair inside a cage. For five days and nights, she was not allowed to sleep. The police took turns interrogating her for “evidence.” Sentenced to five years in prison, she was detained for one year and three months in the Ningde Detention Center before being taken to Group No. 1 in Fujian Women's Prison at the beginning of 2003.

In prison, political instructor Zhu Haiyun pressured Ms. Chen to give up her belief. She was not allowed to sleep for 24 hours and had to do ten days of cleaning.

The prisoners were made to do forced labor. They had to get up at 6 a.m. and work until 7 p.m. Instead of being allowed to rest like the other detainees, Ms. Chen had to stand at break times from 5 to 6 a.m., noon to 1, and after dinner until 11. The prolonged standing really took a toll on her.

Rao Xueying, the captain of the group, ordered four prisoners to force-feed Ms. Chen unknown drugs. On April 28, 2003, she was tied to a bed, hooked up to an IV, and given unknown drugs for an entire day. Afterwards she was weak and confused.

In March 2003 policewoman Wu Yiping dragged Ms. Chen to the office because "she did not raise her hand." Wu Yiping used an electric baton over 12 inches long to shock Ms. Chen's arm and leg until the battery died. At night, policewoman Wu Yingdan called Ms. Chen to the office. Ms. Chen saw that the electric baton had been re-charged, so she stood at the door and refused to go in. Captain Yu from another group heard the commotion and came over. Ms. Chen told her that Wu Yiping used the electric baton to shock her without reason in the morning. Captain Yu said that she would investigate, but nothing happened.

From September to October 2004, Ms. Chen was held in a brainwashing session in the prison. She was detained in a dark cell that was big enough for just a mattress on the floor. She was forced to watch videos that slandered Falun Gong. Every day, staff members took turns talking to her to get her to give up her belief. Practitioner Guan Yujing, who used to be a judge in the Fujian Province Superior Court, was also persecuted in this brainwashing session.

Forced Labor, Constantly Hung or Tied to Bed Frame

Ms. Chen returned home on August 25, 2006. On June 19, 2007, police officers Yang Rihai and others arrested her again and took her to the Ningde Detention Center. A month later, she was sentenced to two years of forced labor. In the labor camp, she was detained and tortured in a solitary cell. Policewoman Zhou Rong constantly looked for excuses to tie Ms. Chen to a bed frame. This torture would last for one to two days. At that time, Ms. Chen was already 60 years old.

Forced Labor Again, Humiliated and Tortured with “Shrink Clothes”

On May 4, 2010, when she was clarifying the truth to students in Fuyang Village in the Jiaocheng District, Ms. Chen was reported to police by pedestrians and parents of the students. She was arrested by Huang Jushi, a policeman from the Domestic Security Division in Jiaocheng District, Ningde City. Practitioner Ms. Ma Cuiying, who was cooking at home at the time, was also arrested.

On the way to the Fujian Province Women's Forced Labor Camp, Ms. Ma Cuiying told police officer Yang Rihai, “I am your mother's age. Would you treat me like this if I was your mother?” Yang Rihai angrily kicked and hit Ms. Ma, causing her face to swell. Captain Li Wei of the Domestic Security Division completely ignored it. Many prisoners saw Ms. Ma Cuiying's swollen face.

This time, Ms. Chen was sentenced to one year and nine months of forced labor. The labor camp set up a special unit where Falun Gong practitioners were persecuted. Ms. Chen was again detained in solitary and monitored 24/7. Policewoman Zhou Rong ordered inmate Yu Aiqiong to humiliate and torture her.

Once when Ms. Chen needed to urinate, the police did not give her a bucket or allow her to use the bathroom, so she had to use her cup. Another time, Yu Aiqiong used a cabinet to block the door to balcony to prevent Ms. Chen from using the bucket on the balcony. When Ms. Chen ran to the bathroom, policewoman Shao Ting used this as excuse to force her to wear “Shrink Clothes” made from thick canvas. The clothes tightly bind to the human body, causing difficulty breathing.

Yu Aiqiong once viciously cursed Chen Xingguang for no reason. Ms. Chen looked at her without saying anything.

On May 27, 2011, Ms. Chen did not feel well, so she refused to go downstairs to eat. Zhou Rong ordered several staff members to drag her to a confinement room on the sixth floor and put “Shrink Clothes” on her. The room was completely sealed with no light and it smelled. Ms. Chen was held there for two days and nights.

Persecuted in a Brainwashing Center

At around 1 p.m. on December 2, 2012, when Ms. Chen was reading at home, police officers Li Wei and Chen Huilu from the Domestic Security Division and two women (Zhou Huizhen and Yu Hui) kicked her door open. They carried her downstairs and pushed her into a car. Ms. Chen shouted “Falun Dafa is good!” all the way to the Brainwashing Center at Lantian Hotel. Her daughter was deceived into going with her.

In the brainwashing center, her daughter, Zhou Huizhen, and Yu Hui monitored Ms. Chen. She was forced to watch videos and read literature slandering Falun Gong. She held a hunger strike to resist the persecution and was threatened that if she refused to give up her belief, she would be taken to prison.

The staff in the brainwashing center included the following personnel: Director Ji from the 610 Office, Captain Xu from the Domestic Security Bureau, Commissioner Feng from the Bureau of Prisons, Policeman Wang, Chu Xinxin and Lin Rong from the Fujian Women's Labor Camp, a man surnamed Yu from the Wuhan Labor Camp, a woman surnamed Jiang from Shanghai, someone with last name of Cai from Zhejiang Province, someone with last name Wen from Guangdong Province, and Zhang Jianhua from Fuzhou City. It was said that the brainwashing center spent 200,000 yuan of taxpayers' money to persecute innocent people.
