Additional Persecution News from China – April 22, 2013 (10 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 10 cities or counties in 6 provinces. According to this report, 5 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 11 practitioners were illegally arrested.

1. [Jianping County, Liaoning Province] Four Practitioners Arrested for Distributing Shen Yun Performing Arts DVDs

Four practitioners--Ms. Dong Shuju, Ms. Yuan Ruilian, Ms. Chen Shuyun, and Ms. Zheng Cuifen--went out to distribute Shen Yun Performing Arts DVDs on the morning of April 21, 2013. Police illegally arrested them and held three of them (Ms. Dong, Ms. Yuan, and Ms. Zheng) in a detention center in the afternoon. Ms. Chen was released.

2. [Fuxin City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Dai Guiying and Ms. Li Fengying Detained

When Ms. Dai Guiying and Ms. Li Fengying talked to people about Falun Gong on the morning of April 19, Xiyuan Police Station officers arrested them and took them to the Development Zone Police Department. Ms. Dai and Ms. Li are now in the Xindi Detention Center.

3. [Siping City, Jilin Province] Mr. Shi Guoliang Brutally Beaten by Prison Guards

Shiling Prison guard Wang Hexun tortured Mr. Shi Guoliang and Mr. Meng Fankui at least twice since the beginning of 2013. When Wang brutally beat Mr. Shi on the morning of March 10, he ordered inmates Yu Yongfu and Jiang Changwei to assist him. This continued until Mr. Shi could not stand any longer and collapsed. Mr. Shi lost consciousness that afternoon and was taken to the hospital for emergency care.

Even before this beating, due to torture Mr. Shi already had acute myocarditis and fluid accumulation in his chest. Prison doctors recommended surgery, but the guards still forced him to labor.

4. [Rizhao City, Shandong Province] Mr. Zhao Chao Arrested on the Evening of April 18

5. [Anshan City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Li Wenzhong Sentenced to Four Years

Mr. Li Wenzhong is a practitioner from Xiashiqiao Village in Dagushan Town. Zhanqian Police Station agents arrested him on July 25, 2012, and ransacked his home. They confiscated Falun Gong books, computers, and other personal belongings. When his family asked for his release, guards swore at them. They dragged Mr. Li’s wife into the guard’s office, handcuffed her to the chair, slapped her in the face, and took her to the police department for interrogation.

When Mr. Li’s family returned five months later, they learned he had been sentenced to four years and sent to Shenyang No. 1 Prison. Officials tortured him and did not allow his family to visit him.

6. [Baoqing County, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Wang Wenmei and Mr. Liu Mingming Detained

Ms. Wang Wenmei and Mr. Liu Mingming, two practitioners around 60 years old, went out to put up truth-clarification posters on April 18. Baoqing County police arrested them and held them in Baoqing Detention Center.

7. [Wuwei City, Gansu Province] Ms. Li Yulian Detained

When Ms. Li Yulian from the Liangzhou District delivered informational materials about Falun Gong on the evening of April 6, Liangzhou Police Department officers arrested her and held her at the Liangzhou District Police Department. When her 80-year-old father went to visit her, officials refused to let him see her.

8. [Tongliao City, Inner Mongolia] Ms. Liu Xiurong Sentenced to Prison

Tongliao City police arrested retired worker Ms. Liu Xiurong in 2008 and ransacked her home. Keerqin District Court officials sentenced her to four years in prison.

9. [Feicheng City, Shandong Province] Ms. Zhu Chuanxiang Detained

Ms. Zhu Chuanxiang, over 50, lives in Beigaoyu Village. Police arrested her when she distributed Falun Gong materials in Shiheng Town on the afternoon of April 20. She is currently detained in Feicheng City.

10. [Shan County, Shandong Province] Ms. Meng Qingmei and Ms. Li Meirong Detained

When Ms. Meng Qingmei and Ms. Li Meirong, two practitioners in their 70s, distributed informational materials about Falun Gong on April 19, Shan County Domestic Division officers including Bao Lihu arrested them. They are now in the Shan County Detention Center.
