Mr. Zhang Hongjin Arrested, Police Attempt to Extort Money from His Blind Parents (Photos)

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Hongjin from Songgezhuang Village, Jiangtuan Town, Laiyang City, Shandong Province was arrested by officers from the Tuanwang Town Police Station on the afternoon of January 23, 2013. His poor and blind parents, in their 70s, were left at home without care and were even extorted funds by the police.

Mr. Zhang was reported by the public security staff and arrested by officers from the Tuanwang Town Police Station while delivering truth-clarifying materials and telling people about the wonderfulness of Falun Dafa in Guangshan Village, Tuanwang Town on January 23, 2013. Officers drove three police cars to Songgezhuang Village around 10 p.m., led by the village public security staff member Gong Yulei, who broke into Mr. Zhang's home, ransacked it, and confiscated Falun Dafa books. Since Zhang's parents are elderly and blind, they could do nothing but let officers rummage through their home.

Officers from the Laiyang City Domestic Security Division came to the Tuanwang Town Police Station on the morning of January 24. They took Mr. Zhang to the Laiyang Detention Center and illegally detained him.

Police broke into Mr. Zhang’s home again on the morning of January 25. They intimidated his parents to disclose who gave them the Falun Dafa materials. The couple said they knew nothing. In the end the police told them, "Do you want your son to come back home for the Chinese New Year? Then you have to give us some money." The aged father pointed to his own blind eyes and said, "We are two blind people and it is very difficult to support ourselves. How can we earn money?" Finally the police had no choice but to leave because they knew that they could not squeeze any money from Mr. Zhang’s parents.

Mr. Zhang, in his 50s, is a single and honest man who lives with his blind parents. After practicing Falun Dafa, he was even kinder to people and took good care of his elderly parents. Knowing their son had been arrested, his parents were extremely sad, especially when police broke into and ransacked their home. They are very helpless and concerned, and constantly worry about their son.

Mr. Zhang’s relatives accompanied his parents to the police department to ask the police to release him on January 29. However, not only did they not release him, but hid in a car and secretly videotaped his parents and relatives.

For those police who still participate in persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners, please listen to our advice: stop persecuting them and do not burn your bridges behind you. Please immediately release Mr. Zhang, return all the items confiscated from his home and apologize to his parents.
