(Minghui.org) A court hearing for Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Guangwei that was scheduled for July 27, 2012 was postponed on short notice, after Pingdu Court officials learned that two lawyers from Beijing would be entering an innocent plea for Mr. Wang, and many local people planned to attend the trial. The court officials didn't announce when the next hearing would be. However, they covertly tried Mr. Wang on September 3 without informing his lawyers.

Mr. Wang Guangwei, from Wangjiazhuang Village, Landi Town, was arrested as he was posting informational stickers about Falun Gong in Majaxibu Village on March 14, 2012. Officers led by Liu Naiqiang from the Landi Town Police Station made the arrest and ransacked his home. Mr. Wang has since been held in the Pingdu Detention Center, where he was forced to do hard labor every day.

On July 13, Mr. Wang was sued by the Pingdu City Procuratorate, and the Pingdu Court scheduled the trial for 2:00 p.m. on July 27, 2012. However, after the local 610 Office and court officials learned that a large number of people had received invitations to attend the trial, and that Mr. Wang’s defense lawyers from Beijing, Dong Qianyong and Lan Zhixue, planned enter an innocent plea for him, they immediately went to various towns and villages to investigate the source of the invitations, and threatened to arrest whoever attended the trial. Less than two days before the scheduled trial, the court suddenly informed the lawyers that the trial was being postponed.

Lawyer Dong Qianyong went to the court on August 15 to inquire about the date for the next hearing, Judge Liu Jianguo, who was in charge of the case, tried to dodge the lawyer's inquiry and looked impatient. He grumbled, “Is it necessary to retain two lawyers for a Falun Gong case?” Nonetheless, Pingdu Court covertly held a hearing and tried Mr. Wang Guangwei on September 3 without informing his lawyers.

The court presumably feared that the Beijing lawyers' defense of Mr. Wang would expose its crimes in persecuting Falun Gong. The 610 Office did not want people attending the trial and learn the truth behind their falsified charges.
