Sixty-Nine-Year-Old Practitioner Ms. Zhang Guilian from Dalian City Dies One Month After Arrest

(Minghui.org) Sixty-nine-year-old Ms. Zhang Guilian from Dalian Development Zone was taking a shower at home on July 6, 2012 when the police broke in. They arrested her and took her to a detention center. She was physically abused until her life was in danger. Due to the injuries she suffered while in detention, she died less than 2 weeks after she was released.

Officers of the Dalian City 610 Office, Political and Legal Committee, and Police Department colluded with the local police and neighborhood committees to carry out a large scale arrest on July 6, 2012. They arrested more than 70 Falun Gong practitioners in Dalian, Dalian Development Zone, Jinzhou District, Wafangdian City, Changhai County and other areas. When the police went to arrest a woman in her 60s who lives in Shahekou District, they even used a fire ladder to break into her home on the fourth floor.

Related personnel in Miaoshang Village, Jinshitan, the Development Zone together with the Jinshitan police broke into the home of 73-year-old Ms. Zhang Guirong early on the morning of July 6. Ms. Zhang Guirong and Ms. Zhang Guilian are sisters, and Ms. Zhang Guilian was taking a shower at their home. The police ransacked the home and confiscated their bank book and cash. They took away the two elderly women and sent them to the Yaojia Detention Center. Ms. Zhang Guirong was released because a physical exam disqualified her from being imprisoned.

Ms. Zhang Guilian was detained for 17 days before she developed symptoms of a stroke. Her life was in danger. To avoid responsibility for her possible death, the detention center officers sent her home. Ms. Zhang passed away on August 5, 2012, only 29 days after she was arrested.
