(Minghui.org) After 10 o'clock on the evening of May 29, 2012, Mr. Liu Yuhai's family had just gone to bed when someone knocked on the door, asking whether the vehicle downstairs was theirs. Mr. Liu answered that the vehicle was his daughter's. He then woke up his daughter and opened the door. All of a sudden three police officers under the supervision of chief Hua Gang from the Changjiang Street Police Station in the Fengman District of Jilin City swarmed in. They asked Ms. Liu Li, Mr. Liu's daughter, whether her husband was home. When she said that he was not, they wanted to know where he was. She told them he was out of town working. They asked for his telephone number, but she did not give it to them.
The three officers searched the home. When Ms. Liu Li tried to get her purse back, the officers put her in a headlock, handcuffed her, and took her downstairs. Mr. Liu's minivan was parked downstairs and the police searched it, too.
Hua Gang called for backup and a dozen police officers arrived to confiscate a lot of Mr. Liu's personal belongings. They also arrested him and his daughter and took them to the Changjiang Street Police Station. Ms. Liu Li was released that same night. Mr. Liu was transferred to the Jilin City Detention Center the next day.
Mr. Liu had suffered from silicosis, intense coughing, hypertension, and other diseases prior to practicing Falun Gong. They disappeared after he started to practice Falun Gong in 1996 and his whole family benefited from his practice. Mr. Jiang Wei, Mr. Liu's son-in-law, also practiced Falun Gong. He was sentenced to three years of forced labor for going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in 1999. He has been harassed by the local neighborhood authorities in recent years and has sometimes he stayed at Mr. Liu Yuhai's home.
On the evening of May 29, 2012, officers from the Jilin City Police Department orchestrated a large scale arrest of Falun Gong practitioners. Currently, over 20 practitioners are being detained at the Jilin City Detention Center. On May 30, seven of them were taken to the detention center. These practitioners included Zhou Hongli, Zhang Jianying, Gao Pengan, Yan Guoheng, and Guo Zhande, who were arrested by officers of the Changyi Police Branch, plus Li Wenjun and Liu Yuhai, who were arrested by officers with the Gaoxin Police Branch. Ms. Ming Yanbo was sentenced to one and a half years of forced labor and taken to the Heizuizi Women's Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City.
