On May 12, 2012, more than 7,000 Dafa practitioners around the world gathered in Manhattan, New York to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Falun Dafa’s introduction to t he public. Among a variety of activities was a parade in Chinatown. The reporter interviewed several practitioners during the parade to talk about the book Zhuan Falun’s profound impact on their lives.
As the most important Falun Dafa work, Zhuan Falun encompasses all the principles for the entire cultivation practice, from beginning to consummation. By reading the entire book over and over, practitioners can gradually improve their understanding and gain insight on numerous high level revelations.
As early as January 1996, Zhuan Falun was named a best seller in Beijing. Now the book is available in more than 30 languages, helping people around the world.
Every Word is a Buddha
Ms. Li Xiaoce from Canada recalled her fond memory when she first read the book. When she opened the book for the first time in 1996, she knew she could not let it go for the rest of her life: “When I opened Zhuan Falun, every word was a Buddha image, hands together in a Buddha greeting gesture, and these words were oscillating. I was both shocked and delighted.”
She knew that the book was not an ordinary book, and she kept reading it over and over: “I told people, this book was written by a Buddha.” After she came to know some practitioners, she found them very different from others. They were warm, nice and compassionate. She too became a practitioner.
Practicing Falun Gong helped Ms. Li better understand life’s meaning. Only when one lives an unselfish life can one see life’s true meaning. Ms. Li said: “Dafa came from China, we have an obligation to tell the Chinese people about Dafa’s wonderful benefits, since they have been deceived by the Chinese Communist Party. We should help more people learn the truth, and that will make the world a better place.” For years since the Chinese Communist Party started the persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. Li has been telling Chinese people about Falun Dafa by making phone calls.
Story of Three Girls

Miss Liang Sheng, 21, grew up in Shenzhen, China. She became a practitioner in January 2011 in Vancouver, Canada. A good friend invited Miss Liang to her house. All of the friend’s family are practitioners. They read Zhuan Falun together. According to Miss Liang: “When we read Chapter Two ‘The Issue of Celestial Eye’, I could not believe the book’s clear and detailed description of the Celestial Eye.”
Miss Liang went on: “I believed in Buddhism, but the Buddhist scriptures do not have clear explanations about the Celestial Eye. So I found this book amazing. Later my friend played Master’s video lectures for several days. Finally I told them: I want to read along with your group. She was very happy to hear that and gave me a book.”
Miss Liang has experienced profound changes in her life since she began to practice Falun Gong. She explained: “My family members would not believe it, but they clearly saw my changes. Before I practiced Dafa, my grades were among the worst in my class, and I failed quite a few courses. Now I achieve above 80 points (out of 100) in all my courses. My change was especially noticeable during the first few months. In the past, I quarreled with my mom all the time. Now no matter how she yells at me, I can keep quiet and not argue back, because I know I must follow the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.”
Liang Sheng’s friend, who introduced Dafa to her, is Xiao Chen. She is a math major at Simon Frazer University in Vancouver. Xiao Chen’s parents are veteran practitioners. At age 10, Xiao Chen began to practice Falun Gong. She told the reporter that compared to many young people who chase after materialistic goals, she is able to pay attention to her spiritual uplifting.
Falun Gong practice has made her healthy and an efficient student. She said: “After I began to practice Dafa, I could learn more in less time.”
Miss Liang shared her story with roommate Guan Meixuan. Soon, Miss Guan also became a practitioner. Before she knew it, her cholecystitis, rhinitis and other problems that had bothered her for years disappeared. Now, three of them attend a study group every week. Their lives are happy and fulfilling. They made a decision to come to New York for the parade.
Ms. Xu from Flushing: Master Li Hongzhi is Very Kind
Ms. Xu Mingxia is a new practitioner from Flushing, New York. Not long ago, when she first saw Master Li’s picture in Zhuan Falun, she had a special feeling. She felt somehow she had known Master Li long ago. Xu Mingxia said: “Falun Gong’s Master is very kind, and his image is that of a Buddha.”
According to Ms. Xu, it did not take her long to know why the Communist Party is persecuting Master Li. In history, Jesus also suffered severe persecution. She decided to practice Falun Gong. After she learned more about Falun Gong, she took her family to see a Shen Yun performance.
Ms. Xu said: “Why did the Communist Party so severely slander such a kind person? I often tell my friends in Flushing how good Falun Gong is, and tell them not to believe a word of the Communist Party propaganda.” After her husband watched Shen Yun, he also decided he would practice Falun Gong in the near future.
