(Minghui.org) Mr. Li Weifu, an executive officer at a mining company in Chengde City, Hebei Province, was arrested on July 5, 2011. During the three-month period that Mr. Li was illegally detained, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities extorted more than 100,000 yuan from him. In the end, Mr. Li was illegally sentenced to 3 years in prison, which is deferred by a 4-year probationary period. Mr. Li's family has suffered a great deal from being threatened and illegally fined huge amounts of money. His mother was very worried and as a result, her eyesight declined rapidly in just a few months.
Mr. Li Weifu
Mr. Li Weifu, 30, originally from Huining County, Gansu Province, is an executive officer at a mining company in Chengde City, Hebei Province. Since Mr. Li started practicing Falun Dafa in 2004, he has strictly followed the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and worked to be a good person. Mr. Li is well respected and liked at work and at home.
On July 5, 2011, under the direction of Wang Shumin, commander of the Hebei Chengde Longhua County Police Department Domestic Security Division, several police officers illegally entered the mining district and arrested Mr. Li. Later, they ransacked his bedroom and confiscated 13,000 yuan in cash, two laptop computers, a video camera, an external hard drive, a video player, a copy of Zhuan Falun, and two other Falun Dafa books. The police officers even took away company property such as desktop computers and commercial printers. After witnessing the police officers taking Mr. Li's valuable belongings, employees at the mining company said it was just like watching a bunch of gangsters vandalize and burglarize the place. Among the officers who participated in Mr. Li's arrest were He Guochun (in his forties) and Yan Bing (in his thirties) from Longhua County Domestic Security Division.
Later, Mr. Li was detained at Longhua County Detention Center for more than 3 months. Officer Yan Bing from the county Domestic Security Division was in charge of Mr. Li's trial. He said that if Mr. Li was willing to pay 300,000 yuan, his case could be resolved privately. Yan promised that it would not be reported to the authorities and Mr. Li would be released. Yan also mentioned that Mr. Li could be released if he provided information about other practitioners. Because Mr. Li refused to cooperate with the police during the trial, he was repeatedly threatened and interrogated, and was slapped in the face.
At the detention center, many detainees noticed that Mr. Li was very gentle. They saw that he had a good education and a good career and seemed to have a good temperament. He was not at all like what the CCP's propaganda portrayed. Many detainees felt that it was unfair for Mr. Li to be detained there, that an innocent person was being wronged.
