Five Practitioners Put on Trial by Longkou City Court

(Minghui.org) Longkou City Court in Shandong Province had planned to try five Falun Gong practitioners on August 21, 2012. The practitioners included Ms. Yang Meijuan, Ms. Jiang Shuhong, Ms. Sui Yuhong, Mr. Wang Mingliang and Mr. Jiang Yongzhan.

One day prior to the trial, however, the court suddenly announced that the trial would be delayed because chief judge Li Wen suffered from appendicitis. Later, officials, including judge Li Wen, threatened and pressured the five practitioners, their defense lawyer from Beijing and their families, eventually forcing the families to dismiss the defense lawyer.

The court then decided to move the hearing to the Longkou Detention Center to prevent the public from attending. Afterward, court officials announced that the hearings for the five practitioners would be held on September 25, 2012.

Events Leading to the Trial

On the morning of April 11, 2012, Longgang Police Station and Dongjiang Police Station officers collaborated with the Longkou City Police Department to break into the homes of Ms. Yang Meijuan, Ms. Sui Yuhong and Mr. Wang Mingliang. The officers confiscated their credit cards, cash, computers and other personal property. They then arrested Ms. Yang, her husband Mr. Jiang Yongzhan, Ms. Sui and Mr. Wang.

On the morning of April 28, Longgang Police Station officers also arrested Ms. Jiang Shuhong as she was leaving her home. They then confiscated her computer and other property. The Longkou City Procuratorate officially announced the arrest of these five practitioners in May.
