Before Ms. Zhou's death, her family found that she was mentally disoriented and her body was covered with bruises and puncture marks from needles.
After a previous arrest for practicing Falun Gong, Mr. Mei regained a university position, only to be arrested again in March 2010.
The police abducted him and then mailed his family an arrest warrant with no signature on it. When his family received another notice from authorities, he had been sentenced to eight years in prison.
