(Clearwisdom.net) Shen Yun Performing Arts opened to a packed theatre, Centre In The Square, on the evening of Jan. 6., receiving standing ovations as the audience clapped continuously through three curtain calls.

Among them was Ms. Fisk, president and CEO of a prominent regional business network organization, who had never seen the New York-based Shen Yun perform before.

Ms. Fisk

Ms. Fisk shared that seeing the show made her aware of the depth of classical Chinese culture. "It sent us a nice message about what Chinese culture is, where the whole concept of Buddha came from--the concept of peace."

Reflecting on the performances exposing the decade of persecution of the Falun Gong spiritual practice in China today, Ms. Fisk felt more people should be aware, "Freedom with choice. I think that was a message that most Canadians wouldn't know, because we enjoy our freedom of choice without ever having to think about it--and just think about some of the persecution that we were shown tonight--that we take for granted."

At heart is a celebration and reawakening of 5,000 years of China's cultural heritage through classical Chinese dance, music, and song featuring award-winning artists.

Ms. Fisk thanked Shen Yun for such a moving performance and sending positive messages to Canadians. "It's a tremendous asset to have this kind of cultural awareness and awakening coming into our community!"

She was also impressed by the groundbreaking Eastern and Western fusion of music played by a full orchestra, noting that it was "innovative, simple ... it wasn't overpowering."

Business Owners Laud Efforts to Revive China's Classical Culture

"Phenomenal!" exclaimed Mr. Bauer, the owner of a company built on technology he designed. "The whole show, the whole presentation showed respect for the culture... They were excellent."

Based in New York, Shen Yun takes its inspiration from 5,000 years of Chinese culture--a culture that the hosts of the show explain has been suppressed and all but extinguished by the authoritarian communist regime ruling China today.

Mr. and Mrs. Bauer

Mr. Bauer said that Shen Yun's efforts to revive China's classical culture greatly moved him. "Culture always overrides communism, and the truth always prevails."

Mrs. Bauer, who is also co-owner of the business, agreed enthusiastically.

"I thought it was fantastic, the costumes were amazing, the [jumps and flips] are phenomenal. It takes a lot of training, coordination, and it was just amazing. I think there is a lot of culture there," she said.

"Of course, we all know the persecution in China. You know free speech, forget that. And we saw that through here. These people are trying to bring that out, that there are a lot of people who are in jail for no reason, there's a lot of people who are being persecuted for no reason. It is a communist country, of course."

Mrs. Bauer said she would recommend that everyone see Shen Yun at least once in their lifetime. "This is phenomenal, we've never seen this, ever. This whole show was fantastic! I thought it was just unbelievable. The dedication these dancers put towards the dancing, the training that they must do...."

She was deeply impressed by the cultural aspects of the show and Shen Yun's efforts to revive and share those traditions.

"It tells you a lot about the culture that we know nothing about. We all know about the persecution going on, but for them to actually take a fight against it and a stand, I think is great. And so is keeping their culture and heritage alive and passing it on."
