Radio Taiwan International: Chinese Official Sued for Human Rights Violations
(Clearwisdom.net) Radio Taiwan International (RTI) reported on December 15 that the Taiwanese Falun Gong Association has filed a lawsuit against Xu Guangchun, the chair of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress in Henan Province, for his role in the persecution of Falun Gong in China. The lawsuit was filed while Xu was visiting Taiwan.
The chair of the Falun Dafa Association, Professor Chang Chinghsi, a human rights lawyer, filed the lawsuit with the Supreme Court.
Since Xu became Secretary of the Henan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party, 1,140 Falun Gong practitioners in Henan have been directly persecuted. There have been 95 documented deaths due to torture and abuse. When Xu was Deputy Minister of the Publicity Department and concurrent Director of the Broadcasting and TV Bureau, he was responsible for anti-Falun Gong propaganda and for molding public opinion to facilitate the persecution of Falun Gong.
Prof. Chang said that Xu should be brought to justice in Taiwan. He called upon the Taiwanese government not to interfere with the rule of law, so that the case can be investigated as soon as possible.
