(Clearwisdom.net) Editors' Note: In both Western and Chinese culture, the principle of karmic retribution, that is, being held ultimately accountable for one's own actions, is widely accepted. The fundamental teaching of Falun Gong is the characteristic of the universe, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. The universe will reward actions that are in harmony with this principle, while actions such as beating, torturing and murdering people will incur karmic retribution. Stated another way, good deeds will be rewarded with good, while evildoings will meet due retribution. Articles such as this one are meant as a compassionate reminder of this principle to those who would commit wrongdoing. While many of those who persecute Falun Gong are merely "following orders," the universal law requires that they, too, be held responsible for their actions, and that only by reversing their course of wrongdoing may they escape retribution.

Twenty-three cases of karmic retribution were reported from Bin County, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province.

1. Sun Yanbin, former Party Secretary and later Chairman of the County People's Congress used to head the 610 Office. Driven by monetary and political greed, he enthusiastically cooperated with Jiang Zemin's regime to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Under his tenure, more than 30 county residents were arrested. Close to 20 of them were sent to labor camps, including to the Changlinzi Forced Labor Camp and the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp in Harbin City where they were savagely tortured.

Following Sun's promotion to Chairman of the People's Congress he continued to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. One day in January 2004, his chauffeur explained to him how he had benefited from Falun Gong practice, and dispelled the lies fabricated against Falun Gong. He reported the chauffeur to the police, causing him to be sentenced to two years in prison and fired from his job.

Sun announced at a People's Congress meeting that one would be rewarded with 500 yuan for reporting a Falun Gong practitioner to the authorities. He shouted, "I do not believe in karma. If I really get punished, then I'll believe [Falun Gong]." He was diagnosed with advanced bladder cancer soon afterwards. Although he has been in and out of large hospitals for the past few years, his condition continues to deteriorate. Recently he had his bladder removed and has to use a tube for urination.
