Aug. 4

As the Olympic torch passed through Daqing City on July 12, 2008, Daqing City 610 Office agents and CCP organizations on all levels began rigorous preparation for another round of persecution of Falun Gong.

From July 1 to July 23, 2008, over twenty Falun Gong practitioners in Guan County, Shandong Province and nearby townships were arrested.

Aug. 5

On July 11, 2008, Songyuan City and Fuyu County police in Jilin Provincestarted another round of arrests involving Falun Gong practitioners

On July 4, 2008, at 7 a.m., Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Huang Wei was arrested by plainclothes police. The police broke down his door and searched the house, and they took away his wife Hao Qiuyan while she was still in her pajamas. Afterwards they went to search Huang Wei's office and arrested a female staff there who also practiced Falun Gong.

Aug. 6

The girls have been arrested and detained for over a month and are about to be sentenced because their family is accused of producing Falun Gong materials for distribution.

Local lawyers are forbidden to represent a Falun Gong practitioner in court.

Aug. 7

On July 10, 2008, the Politics and Law Committee of Wangqing County, Jilin Province, the National Security Team of the County Police Department and the local 610 Office implemented wide ranging arrests of Falun Gong practitioners in Wangqing County, using the "safety of the Olympics torch" in Yanji City as an excuse.

Aug. 8

An elderly study group is arrested and detained.

Aug. 9

Police can arrest suspected Falun Gong practitioners at will.

Mr. Fan was arrested in late 2007 and after a few months became quite weak. After being diagnosed with liver cancer, he was not treated or released until near death.
