(Clearwisdom.net) The Chinese Spectacular by the touring company of Divine Performing Arts successfully completed its four-show run at the Grand Peace Palace of Kyung Hee University at 9:50 p.m. on February 24. Piao Shunu, head costume designer for the popular South Korean TV series Dae Jang Geum saw the Spectacular twice and took detailed notes during the performances. She said, "I saw it yesterday and I've come again today. No other program has intrigued me so much that I have to see it again. I think the female dancers' costumes are a wonder!"

Piao Shunu, head costume designer for Dae Jang Geum (Jewel in the Palace) a popular TV series produced by South Korean TV channel MBC, saw the Chinese Spectacular twice

Piao Shunu took a first row seat to see the show for the second time

Piao Shunu stated, "Today I come to see this performance again because I am enamored by the beautiful Chinese traditional clothing. I think if the experts who study Korean clothing could see this performance, it would be a big help to them. If the beauty of South Korea's clothing is in its grandeur, then the beauty of China's traditional clothing is in its gracefulnesss and mystery."

Piao Shunu specially wore Korean attire to attend the show the second time. She said, "Yesterday I watched the Spectacular with more than 100 performers, I felt ashamed because, as an expert in Korean clothing, I didn't dress in Korean clothes to attend the show. Today, I especially put on Korean clothing to come to see this beautiful performance."

"In 'Nymphs of the Sea,' every dancer's movements were extremely light and delicate. The part where they portrayed the ocean waves was very well choreographed. The edges of their fans were soft and flowing, very much like billowing waves. I've never seen that before."

"'Ladies of the Manchu Court' tells me that women since the Qing Dynasty up until now have always pursued loveliness and elegance. The dancing beauties' slim waists and the gorgeous costumes presented a wondrous picture. The backdrop always matched perfectly [the historic era and storyline depicted in] the dance; they were ever changing but always accurate, which is also a first-time experience for me. I've seen it all today. I am so moved!"

"Other shows mostly feature the performers, but the Spectacular incorporates modern technology and special effects into the backdrop. The performers and the backdrop make a harmonious whole. The costumes in the 'Chopstick Zest' appear similar to ethnic Korean costumes for the women but slightly altered. The male dancers performed in costumes that impressed me deeply.

"Yesterday when I saw it I was pleasantly surprised and very excited. Today I sit in the first row so I can carefully and calmly take in this performance.

"The costumes are beautiful--almost miraculous! The male drummers are full of energy. I think Chinese and Koreans should make good use of their traditional clothing and alter them to make them prettier, instead of wearing Western suits all the time. That way, we will preserve our traditional culture. This is what I took away from the show."

Piao Shunu had in her hands a Spectacular program and a small notepad. She showed the reporter the detailed notes she took during the show and said she plans to come and see it again next year.
