Because I refused to give up practicing Falun Gong, I was detained at the Pi County Detention Center. On October 17, 2002, a female practitioner named Huang Lisha was tortured to death by the police there.
Huang Lisha was taken to the Pi County Detention Center on August 22. She went on a hunger strike to protest her arrest and was force-fed by a tube and given an infusion of unknown substances. In early September she was sent to the Qingyang District Hospital. There she received further intravenous infusions all day long until she passed away.
Huang Lisha passed away at around 7:00 a.m. on October 17, 2002. The night before I had heard her whistling (a common result of the method of force feeding) and she was having a hard time breathing. She was still handcuffed and her feet shackled. Another three practitioners next to her bed were also handcuffed and shackled. The police even blamed her for disrupting their sleep and then beat her for her whistling breath.
The nurse on duty would also often beat her in particular because Huang Lisha had been on a hunger strike for too long, thus making it difficult for the nurse to find her veins for the IV infusion. However, none of this torture caused Lisha to change her belief as Lisha said while the nurse was torturing her: "No matter what you do, I will never be afraid."
The detention center did not release her even though they knew that her life was in danger. The medical care personnel also did not try to save her life when she died. Her body was even cremated only minutes after her death without authorization from her family.
Other Practitioners also Tortured to Death at Chengdu Pi County Detention Center
In November 2002, there was another very determined practitioner also tortured to death as a result of hunger strike. She was called Sister Jiang.
Another practitioner Zhang Yalin is over forty years old. During the use of the intravenous infusion, the police secretly put some kind of drug into the fluid. She became mentally disoriented afterwards. She was unable to walk straight and needed assistance to walk. In spite of her poor health condition, the police insisted in sending her to a labor camp. After she failed the physical exam, she was sent back to the detention center. She was supposed to be released within one month. However, it has been over two months and she has still not been released.
