Yingjiu Ma, the mayor of Taipei, participated in the press conference at the opening ceremony. He said that when he did his morning exercises, he always ran into Falun Gong practitioners doing exercises; he not only saw the banners of "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance" in Taiwan but also around the world. He also agreed that the self-cultivation method would be the ultimate solution to the current social problems.

Falun Dafa Practitioner Xiao Jinsong of Jilin province Tortured to Death

Xiao Jinsong, male, was a steadfast Falun Dafa practitioner from Jilin City, Jilin Province. At the beginning of October 2000, he left for Beijing to peacefully appeal and was captured, illegally sentenced, and detained in a labor camp. Since he refused to renounce Falun Dafa, or to write a 'repentance' letter, or to even cooperate with the evil, they brutally tortured him. To defy and resist this persecution, he went on a hunger strike in protest. The police in the labor camp meted out inhuman tortures upon him until he was on the verge of death.
