1. [Beijing] Two Illegally Detained Practitioners Go on Hunger Strike
Liu Jiyin and Liu Xiaojie, two practitioners from Beijing who are sisters, are being illegally detained in Miyun detention center. To protest their detention, they went on a hunger strike. Liu Xiaojie has been on hunger strike for 14 days and is in bad shape. The policemen started to force feed her on the seventh day, once each day. Liu Xiaojie was very firm and sent forth righteous thoughts, "The force feeding will not work!" Two policemen would drag her out, add a large amount of salt into the food, insert a tube into her stomach, and force feed her bean powder. Every time after she returned from the force feeding, she vomited everything. She has a fever and pains all over her body. Suffering a great deal, she moans throughout the night. A fellow practitioner could not bear to see her pain and called the policemen to come take a look. The police came in and cruelly beat this practitioner, threatening to torture her by handcuffing her spread-eagled onto a wooden board and leaving her there. Due to the firm resistance of other fellow practitioners, the police did not dare to continue persecuting Liu Xiaojie. But police have not given any indication that they will release the two sisters.
We urgently appeal to kindhearted people all over the world, international peace organizations, and human rights organizations for assistance. Liu Xiaojie and Liu Jiyin are suffering inhuman tortures for the sake of all of our futures.
2. [Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] Practitioner Arrested, Whereabouts Unknown
Practitioner Chen Weihua, 30 years old, is a retired army officer and works in the provincial government. His wife Zhao Rongye is a teacher in Caochangjie Elementary School. They were stopped by plain-clothes policemen while distributing truth-clarifying materials. Chen was taken away by the police, and we currently do not know his whereabouts. Zhao Rongye was able to escape for the time being but later was also arrested. She is currently being detained in Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp, leaving two children at home. The younger child has just finished breast feeding and can only be sent to Zhao's mother to be taken care of. Another happy family has been broken apart by Jiang Zemin's campaign of persecution.

According to reliable sources, guards in team one at Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp have tortured a male practitioner to the verge of death. This practitioner is receiving emergency treatment now. The labor camp fears that their vicious behavior will be exposed and are imposing a strict information blockade. No one is currently being allowed to visit the practitioners. The situation is urgent!

Male practitioner Li Xin was arrested on May 16, 2001 and later sentenced to two
years of forced labor. He is detained in Changlinzi Forced Labor Camp in
Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province. He has been on a hunger strike since November 26. We ask the world to pay attention to this issue.
5. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Police Harass Dafa Practitioners and Are Scolded By The Families of Practitioners
Now that it is close to the end of the year, the police in Dalian City are once more intensifying the persecution of practitioners. Each police sub-station keeps a record of the practitioners in its jurisdiction, even those who are currently overseas. They attempt to keep track of overseas practitioners by investigating their families. For example, a young policeman from Chunhai Police Station frequently calls or drops in on practitioners' homes and harasses the families. This severely interrupts the normal life of everyone in their home, including the children and the elderly. Finally, the family members gave the police a stern scolding. This type of reaction is beginning to be seen all over the city.

Sister Mo has gone [Note: "Sister", in the sense of "elder sister", is a respectful term in Chinese for a woman who is older]. She has gone in a solemn and deeply moving way. She has gone silently. Different memories of Mo Shuijin keep surfacing in my heart, memories that moved me profoundly.
I remember one day when I went to her house. She was having breakfast and reciting the Fa. She was able to memorize 5 to 6 pages every day. She carried out Dafa work quietly and often hosted out-of-town practitioners in her home. Not only did she spread the Fa and clarify the truth, she also studied the Fa diligently. She could recite "Zhuan Falun" and Teacher's many other scriptures.
Mo Shuijin went to Tiananmen Square to validate Dafa. She shouted on the Square, "Teacher, I have come to fulfill my promise!" She boldly validated the Fa and returned home safely in an open and dignified manner.
7. [Laiwu City, Shandong Province] Lawless Policemen Kidnap Practitioners
From November 24 to 25, 2001, policemen led by Qi Bingru, Deputy Police Chief of the Development Zone in Laiwu City, arrested five practitioners and confiscated many Dafa books, other Dafa materials, and certificates of deposit valued at over 10,000 Yuan (Note: 500 Yuan is the average monthly salary of an urban Chinese worker). The practitioners were detained at the Laiwu City Detention Center.
One practitioner was later released, but the other four practitioners are still being illegally detained.

Insiders say that the Daqing City Police Department is plotting to illegally sentence to prison several kidnapped practitioners being detained there. At this time, some of the names being discussed for sentencing include Jiao Chunfu, Zhong Zhaoqing, Guan Fenglan, and Xiao Ailing.
9. [Beining City, Liaoning Province] Police Kidnap Practitioners and Hold them for Ransom
From September 24 to 27, 2001, the Beining City Police Department launched a mass arrest of practitioners in its jurisdiction. Policemen completely ignored the sanctity of the law and committed numerous crimes. Whenever they came to a house, they would say, "We have been informed that you have Dafa materials. We're searching your house." But after entering the house, they turn it upside down without showing any legal documentation. They would gain access to one-story houses by climbing over the walls. To make the search "legal", they would ask the family to sign a form, threatening that if they didn't sign, they would arrest the whole family. If any Dafa materials, flyers or tapes were found, they would detain the practitioners immediately.
After some practitioners were detained, their family members were anxious to have them released. They received this "advice" from the police: "Bring 1,000 Yuan to have your relative released." It was clear that the police were extorting money by kidnapping practitioners. However, when the families actually tried to "buy" the freedom of the practitioners, they found that they had to pay more than 1,000 Yuan. In addition to the original ransom fee, they had to pay meal expenses, "early release fees", etc. for a total of more than 400 Yuan.
There were a few dozen practitioners who were arrested in late September. Many of their families paid the ransom, but the rest of them either didn't have the money, or their families resisted the extortion. One afternoon, some families received notification that they only needed to pay 800 Yuan to secure the release of the practitioners. Some families still replied that they didn't have any money. Later the police again called the families, telling them to pay the meal expenses and the practitioners would be released. This time the families paid, and the police released the practitioners.
During this period of time, one practitioner's husband worried about her being tortured in the detention center, so he contacted the local police station to try to have her released. The policemen threatened him, "You must try to buy her freedom immediately. She will be sent to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp soon." Then they asked the family to pay 3,000 Yuan. That morning, after her family paid the money, the practitioner was released. Later, when the husband heard that other practitioners were also released that afternoon, and some families didn't pay any money except meal expenses, he was very upset but couldn't say anything.
We urge family members of practitioners to not cooperate with the extortion demands. If you do, you will only encourage the police to continue arresting your family members.
10. [Guan County, Shandong Province] Lawless Suntong Township Government Officials Pay Others to Slander Falun Gong
Recently, the corrupt officials in the Suntong Township Government in Guan County hired some unscrupulous people to lie and say that they were Falun Gong practitioners. The officials told them to fabricate stories and paid them 10 Yuan each time they told those stories. These people were hired specifically to spread their lies during a reception for higher authorities who were coming for an inspection.

According to sources from within the Guan County Police Department, about 30 Falun Dafa practitioners were illegally detained because they persisted in practicing Falun Gong. In protest of this persecution, the practitioners went on a hunger strike. The police department tried to get doctors from the local hospital to force-feed the practitioners, but they refused because they were afraid that this would cause the practitioners to die. Because they were unable to get the doctors to cooperate, they had the officers from the vice squad force-feed the practitioners. This torture was especially difficult for those practitioners to endure as they had been on a hunger strike for a long time already.
12. [Weifang City, Shandong Province] Changle Labor Camp Turns Into a Moneymaking Operation
Ever since they began to illegally detain Falun Dafa practitioners last year, guards from the Changle Labor Camp have been physically torturing the practitioners using various cruel and inhuman methods. At the beginning of this year, they began to torture the practitioners mentally as well. They held "re-education classes" to forcibly brainwash practitioners. They earned 70 Yuan when they successfully made a practitioner give up practicing. This bonus was increased to 250 Yuan at the end of this fall. When a practitioner had to be released because his or her condition became serious from being tortured, they would also extort at least 1,000 Yuan from the family of that practitioner. In this way, they brought considerable income to the labor camp.
In addition, the practitioners' friends and relatives were not allowed to bring any daily necessities to give to them when they came to visit. The practitioners were forced to buy them from the labor camp, where the prices were inflated to be 3 times higher than normal prices.
13. [Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province] Local Police Create a "Wave of Terror" for Residents
Around National Day (October 1), the police in Jiujiang City illegally arrested another 20 or 30 Falun Dafa practitioners. Many practitioners' families were harassed repeatedly by the police who ransacked their homes without presenting any warrants. Dafa practitioners' family members were very scared and could not stop worrying. Many practitioners were arrested and detained without cause, and some were forced to leave home to avoid illegal arrest. The police even went to private businesses to tell them not to hire Falun Gong practitioners because they would be arrested.
Zhao Yufang from Jiujiang City was illegally sentenced to one year of forced labor. Although two years have passed, she is still being held in the Jiangxi Female Labor Camp. Dafa practitioners have no human rights at all. They could be arrested and their homes could be ransacked at any moment. We call on all righteous people around the world to pay attention to this issue and support the persecuted Falun Gong practitioners.
14. [Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province] Rays of Light Miraculously Appear in the Sky
On the night of October 18, I could see numerous stars flickering as if they were greeting me. At about 9:40 p.m., when I looked up, I saw a ray of soft red light northwest of Vega shining down on me. This ray of light was a little bit curved, floating back and forth, right and left, appearing from time to time and continuously varying its shape. Then I thought that it might have been from the searchlights of the boats on the Yangtze River. After more careful observation, I discovered that it was not. I hurried back home with much excitement. I called my children, who were doing their homework, to come out, and both of them witnessed it. The miraculous light lasted for about 5 or 6 minutes, and then gradually disappeared.
The next day, I talked about this matter with my neighbor, a non-practitioner. He said that he also saw the miraculous light at about 10:00 p.m. on the night of October 17.
