Recent Persecutions against Falun Gong Practitioners in Chengdu City, Si-chuan Province

[Chengdu City] Repeated Arbitrary Detention

Practitioner Ms. Liu Can, 70 years old, was the former president of the school affiliated with the 106 Guo-guang Factory of Electron Tube. She lived in the Cheng-hua district within the control of the police station of Jian-she Road. She has been detained for more than 4 months since she was escorted back in last November from Beijing where she appealed for Falun Gong. She has served 37 days of criminal detention in the second detention center of Lian-hua Village of Chengdu City, and 5 terms of administrative detention (each term lasting 15 days) in the detention center of the Jiu-ru Village of Chengdu City. Every time when the legal limit of administrative detention (15 days) was due, the police station of Jian-she Road would pick her up at around 11am and ask her whether she would continue to practice Falun Gong. She always gave them an affirmative answer. As a result, the police station then sent her back to the detention center. It repeated like this for 6 times.

On the morning of March 9, Ms. Liu was detained in the police station after she was taken out from the detention center. She would be sent back to the detention center at night. She was not even allowed to go home to take a bath. Ms. Liu questioned the police officer, "Why do you detain me endlessly?" The police officer then cursed her and stepped on her handcuffed hands, which injured her wrists and hands. Ms. Liu was then sent back to the detention center after 11pm. Even the police officers in the detention center admitted that it was against the law to detain her repeatedly like that. But she is still in custody.

Practitioner Ms. Li Xue-zhen, 58 years old, a retired employee of the Chengdu City Shopping Building. She also lived in the Cheng-hua district within the control of the police station of Jian-she Road. She and her sisters went together to a hospital to visit a sick relative. After they went back, they got detained for the accusation of "association" on March 10. On March 24, the police station of Jian-she Road picked them up and asked them whether they would continue to practice Falun Gong. They all answered yes. Therefore, they were sent back to the detention center. They are now still being detained.

Practitioner Mr. Fan Hai-dong, 31 years old, bachelor degree, an official of the 106 Guo-guang Factory of Electron Tube. He has been detained for more than 3 months since last December after he appealed for Falun Gong in Beijing. He has served one month of criminal detention in the second detention center of the Lian-hua Village, and 4 terms of administrative detention in the detention center of the Jiu-ru Village.

[Chengdu City] Practitioners Harassed and Threatened by Police

At 10am of March 28, more than 10 police officers from Jin-jiang police department of Chengdu City suddenly broke into the home of practitioner Ms. Fang Jing, who lived in the Shan-guan-tang Street and just got released from the criminal detention several days ago on March 24. They confiscated all her Falun Dafa materials and then took her to the Ban-xian-qiao police station. The police officers took out many names and photos and asked her whether she knew them or not, and where her Falun Dafa materials came from etc. She was freed at 10pm.

Practitioner Ms. Li Ying-xiang was also interrogated. The police officers threatened her that she would be thrown into the jail if she refused to make confession about the detailed information about the Experience-sharing Conference held on February 27. They also told her that if she agreed to confess, her young daughter Li Yan who was also a practitioner would be released and her forced-labor "education" outside jail would be cancelled. Ms. Li Ying-xiang, her husband and her young daughter have been serving forced-labor "education" for appealing in Beijing for Falun Gong.
