Dear Ambassador Li:

I am writing to express my grave concern abut reports that authorities in the People' Republic of China have seized and imprisoned Chunyan Teng, a permanent resident of the United States and the wife of a United States citizen who resides in Union County, New Jersey.

The US embassy in Beijing has been unsuccessful in its bid to have one of its citizens kept out of a Chinese jail.

The case is linked to the ongoing crackdown against the outlawed meditation group, Falun Gong.

BEIJING -- A New York-based member of the Falun Gong spiritual movement has been sentenced to three years in prison by a Chinese court after being charged with giving sensitive information to foreigners, a senior U.S. diplomat said Tuesday.
